Happy New Year y’all! It’s hard to believe this is the last few days of 2022. There have been some good things that happened this year, like my working full-time. Today’s tag is about setting goals for 2023 and looking back at my reading in 2022. I found the New Year’s Book Tag at Read All The Things.

New Year's Book Tag-2022 Edition

The original New Year’s Book Tag was created in 2019, so I have taken the liberty to update some of the questions. I did this tag in 2021; you can check my answers here.

Now let’s do this New Year’s Book Tag-2022 Edition!

How many books did you read in 2022? How many books are you planning to read in 2023?

With two days left in the year, I have read 87 books, which is more than the 52 I had set as my goal for the year. I currently have three books on the go, and I may finish one before the end of the year.

As for how many books I plan to read in 2023? I think I’ll be keeping the goal the same at 52. A book a week is doable.

Six books you will make a priority in 2023?

Looking for Me by Beth Hoffman | The All You Can Dream Buffet by Barbara O’Neal | The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Steadman

The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith | The Geography of Lost Things by Jessica Brody | The Kindred Spirits Supper Club by Amy E. Reichert

What genre do you want to read more of in 2023?

There is only one genre I refuse to read, and that’s because I’m a chicken, and that is horror. Other than that, I’ve started reading more fantasy and maybe a bit of sci-fi. So which would I like to read more of? Maybe sci-fi? I haven’t read many “action” books lately, think James Bond or Jack Ryan. So maybe those?

Three non-book-related goals for 2023?

  1. Focus more on me! In 2022, I struggled to find things that made me happy. I have been a wife and mother for so long that I’ve kind of lost myself along the way. I want to change that in the coming year.
  2. I am still hoping for a mini-vacation with my husband and no kids. It almost happened a few times in 2022, but life (meaning work) got in the way.
  3. To go home for a visit! As an ex-pat, the past couple of years have been rough with the world shut down. In the years prior, we would go to the States to visit family, but never home. I haven’t been home since 2014. The trip almost happened recently, but Mother Nature changed plans (stupid mountains of snow!).

A book you’ve had forever that you still need to read?

Tess of the D’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy

One word to describe your 2022? One word to describe your dreams for 2023?

Only one word for 2022? Stressful!

One word for 2023? Healing!

And that is the New Year’s Book Tag: 2022 edition! What do you think of my plans for the coming year? What are some of your plans for 2023? Let me know in the comments below.

Happy New Year!

  1. I highly recommend listening to at least the first No 1 Detective Agency book–get the pronunciation down, unless you are familiar with Botswana. I love Beth Hoffman’s books–she’s from Cincy, which is near where I live. I also enjoyed Light Between the Oceans–great choices for your year! Enjoy it all.
