Hey, y’all! December is over, and January is upon us. Where did the month go, let alone the year? How was your December? Mine was full of reading and some holiday spirit. I would love to say that the end of the month was great, too, as I have been off work since December 23. But, alas, I can not say that, as I managed to cut three fingers while fixing dinner one night and spent over five hours in the emergency room to get checked out. Thankfully, no stitches, just a painful tetanus shot. Anyway, let’s get to why we are all here, my reading wrap-up December 2022 edition!

Reading Wrap-Up December 2022: Holiday Season

Reading Wrap-Up December 2022

December was one of my most successful reading months this year, with ten books read. Unfortunately, four books were DNF, and I managed to read all three books that I listed in my November Wrap-Up. Of the ten books I read, it was an even split of five audio and five non-audio (two were ebooks, and the other three were physical books).

The titles link to Goodreads.

A Brief Description of What I Read in December 2022

One Night on the Island: Cleo writes dating advice columns, is about to turn 30, and feels a little burned out. Mack is a photographer trying to figure out what to do next as his family life is falling apart. Cleo’s boss sends her to a cabin on a remote island in Ireland; Mack borrows the family cabin on a remote island in Ireland. What happens when these two strangers find out they’re staying in the same cabin with no other options?

Animal Life: A massive winter storm is approaching Iceland, leaving midwife Dómhildur reflecting on her great-aunt’s past and figuring out where she fits in life. For a more in-depth review, click here.

The Nineties: An in-depth look at the years between 1989 and 2001 by someone who lived through them.

25 Days ‘Til Christmas: Widow and single mom Kate has lost the holiday feeling, but she’s trying to fake it for her son, Jack.

The Suite Spot: Single mom Rachel has decided she needs a new start and finds herself moving from Florida to Ohio with her 4-year-old daughter to work in a boutique hotel. The only problem is the hotel hasn’t been built yet. And Mason, the grumpy man running it, has no drive to complete the project.

The Lipstick Bureau: This World War II-era historical fiction introduces readers to Niki, a newlywed who has been recruited to join a spy organization that was setting up an office in Rome. For a more in-depth review, click here.

The Switch: Londoner Leena Cotton has been told she needs to take a 2-month sabbatical. Eileen Cotton feels stuck in her small town, never having had the chance to see the world before settling down and getting married. The two Cotton women decide to switch places and live each other’s lives-Leena in her grandmother’s small town and Eileen in London.

Anne of Greenville: A modern-day retelling of the classic Anne of Green Gables. Anne loves disco and roller skating, one of which makes her an outcast in her new town of Greenville.

Haikyu! Vol 1: Introduces readers to Japan’s world of high school volleyball.

Murder at Mallowan Hall: Phyllida Bright, the housekeeper at Mallowan Hall, is also close friends with the lady of the house, Agatha Mallowan, aka Agatha Christie. Imagine their surprise when a man, a relative stranger, is found murdered in the library after a dinner party. Which of the other members of the household committed the crime? Will Phyllida be able to solve the murder before anyone else ends up dead?

January 2023 TBR

While my TBR for January may look a little crazy, it’s not, I promise! I have three ARCs, one challenge book, and two others that I started in December and should get done before too long. So that is a total of six books. The challenge I’m doing this year is Buzzwordathon from Kayla at Books and Lala.

And that is my Reading Wrap-Up for December 2022 and a small sample of my January TBR. How was your reading in December? What’s on your January TBR?

  1. Ouch! I cut my finger deeply once when washing glasses (never, never stick your hand in a glass and twist to wash!) anyway, I still remember the shot I had to numb my finger for stitches. Sooo painful! I hope you enjoy Fikry! I recently watched the movie adaptation! Book is better but movie’s not bad! Happy 2023 reading!

    1. Thankfully I didn’t have to have stitches, but because I cut my fingers on a can, I had to have a tetanus shot. My arm is still a bit sore from that. Fingers crossed, I’ll be better when I return to work on Wednesday.

    1. I was listening to the audio, but had to give up. I’m not sure if I was too occupied elsewhere or what, but I couldn’t keep up with who was who.

  2. What a great month of reading. I’m hoping to get to Maame and Cheddar Off Dead in January too

  3. Ouch, cutting three fingers sounds very painful but I hope that it’s healing well enough now! I’m sorry to see that you had to DNF Daisy Jones! I listened to it on audio and loved the full cast production so much. I hope you start your 2023 reads strong with lots of books you love!
