Happy Thursday y’all! It’s hard to believe this is the last Thursday of 2021, and maybe it’s a good thing that 2021 is ending. Who knows? There have been some good things that happened this year, like me starting this blog. Today’s tag is about setting goals for 2022 and looking back at my reading in 2021. I found the New Year’s Book Tag over at Read All The Things.

New Year's Book Tag: 2021 Edition

The original New Year’s Book Tag was created in 2019, so I have taken the liberty to update some of the questions.

How many books did you read in 2021? How many books are you planning to read in 2022?

At the beginning of 2021, I had only figured I would read 30 books. Over the past few years, I had read less than that, so I had assumed 30 would be a good number. Imagine my surprise when I surpassed that number by the end of March. With only a few days left in 2021, I have read 98 books.

How many books will I read in 2022? Honestly, I don’t know, and I think a book a week is feasible, especially as I am working again. I will read more than I used to read when working, which averaged two books a month. I suppose that means I am hoping to read 52 books in 2022.

Five books you will make a priority in 2022?

What genre do you want to read more of in 2022?

I want to think that I read various genres and always have. Some are easier to read, but I can’t think of one that I would like to read more of than another. That said, in 2021, I did find myself reading more fantasy books. And maybe that is something that I can continue with in 2022.

Three non-book-related goals for 2022?

  1. Exercise 3 times a week, no matter the weather.
  2. Talk with my mom at least once a month. And I mean more than a text conversation. I think that she could use a friendly ear after the past year.
  3. To have a weekend away with just my husband. We are reaching 21 years of marriage, and we never had a honeymoon or a trip away without the kids. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, as we’ll both probably sleep most of the time we are away. But a chance for just the two of us to get away for a weekend, or a couple of days during the week even, would be nice.

A book you’ve had forever that you still need to read?

I’ve had Tess of the D’Urbervilles on my Goodreads since 2012, and it’s the book that has been on there the longest. I used to have a copy of it, but things got packed up when we moved, and I think it may have been left at my in-laws. If that’s the case, I have a feeling it’s long gone. It’s not the only book left behind, and I feel that all of the books were taken to the thrift store.

One word to describe your 2021? One word to describe your dreams for 2022?

The current year, the one that is almost over was stressful! That is the only way to describe it.

My dreams for 2022 in one word? That’s easy; that word is hopeful. A new year brings a new beginning and new opportunities.

And that is the New Year’s Book Tag: 2021 edition! What do you think of my plans for the coming year? What are some of your plans for 2022? Let me know in the comments below.

Happy New Year!

  1. That is a huge difference between the number of books you thought you would read this year, and what you actually read! 52 sounds like a good goal for 2022. I think my word for the coming year will be “gentle.” Both as a hope for the year and as a reminder to be gentle with myself. The past two years have been stressful indeed.

  2. Fun tag! I hope you get your vacation with just your husband and have a great time. 21 years of marriage is fantastic!
