November is here; how did that happen already? It feels like October was only two weeks long. Anyway, here is my reading wrap-up for October 2021!

How was your October? For me, it was a weird one. Why? Because it was busy, but it wasn’t busy. How does that make any sense? My mom came to visit us for a couple of weeks in October. It was the first time we’ve seen her since Christmas 2019 and the first time since my dad passed away in the spring. While she was here, we had Thanksgiving, my birthday, and what would have been my parents’ 50th anniversary. We didn’t get to do as much touristy stuff as she wanted because the weather was cold and damp-two things she’s not good at dealing with. She’s hoping to be able to come up around Easter, but we shall see. I know we need to head south at some point because we’ve got a lot of things we need to sort through.

October Reading Wrap Up

Enough about my weird October; you’re here to find out about my reading. You know what, me too! I know I didn’t blog much while my mom was here, but I did manage to get some reading done. Surprisingly, I managed to read 3 of the 5 books I had on my TBR. I am also halfway through with one of the others, but I will include that in my November wrap-up. I am also proud to say that I did not DNF any books in October! Yay!

What did I read in October 2021?

  1. Towards Zero by Agatha Christie
  2. The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox
  3. The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson
  4. Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston
  5. The Cursed Carnival and Other Calamities: New Stories About Mythic Heroes from Rick Riordan Presents
  6. Cynthia Starts a Band by Olivia Swindler
  7. When the Men Were Gone by Marjorie Herrera Lewis
  8. The A.B.C. Murders by Agatha Christie
  9. Daughter of the Deep by Rick Riordan

A Brief Summary of Each Book

Book 1: Towards Zero by Agatha Christie

According to the Agatha Christie website: What is the connection between a failed suicide attempt, a wrongful accusation of theft against a schoolgirl, and the romantic life of a famous tennis player?

Book 2: The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox

The recipe for The Holiday Swap:

Mix equal parts The Great British Baking Show, The Parent Trap, and Hallmark Holiday Movie in one 350 page novel. Enjoy!

Book 3: The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson

A young woman living in a rigid, puritanical society discovers dark powers within herself in this stunning, feminist fantasy debut.

Book 4: Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston

Men in Black mixed with Artemis Fowl is the best way to describe this book.

Book 5: The Cursed Carnival and Other Calamities: New Stories About Mythic Heroes from Rick Riordan Presents

A cave monster . . . an abandoned demon . . . a ghost who wants to erase history . . . a killer commandant . . . These are just some of the challenges confronting the young heroes in this highly entertaining anthology of stories from the Rick Riordan Presents imprint.

Book 6: Cynthia Starts a Band by Olivia Swindler

Cynthia is the name pop star Eleanor Quin takes when she decides to start over. But why does she need to start over? What is she trying to get away from?

Book 7: When the Men Were Gone by Marjorie Herrera Lewis

Tylene Wilson is a high school administrator and lover of football. She knows that if there’s no coach, the football season will be canceled. What will happen to the senior boys if there’s no football to keep them around?

Book 8: The A.B.C. Murders by Agatha Christie

From the Agatha Christie site: There’s a serial killer on the loose, working his way through the alphabet – and the whole country is in a state of panic. A is for Mrs. Ascher in Andover, B is for Betty Barnard in Bexhill, C is for Sir Carmichael Clarke in Churston. With each murder, the killer is getting more confident – but leaving a trail of deliberate clues to taunt the proud Hercule Poirot might prove to be the first and fatal mistake.

Book 9: Daughter of the Deep by Rick Riordan

A modern homage to Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

November 2021 TBR

What to read in November? That’s a great question, as things are going to get weird again. Why? Because I’m going back to work after being out of work for almost 15 months. So I’m not sure how much time I will have to read. I am halfway through a book from my October TBR, and I will add it to my November wrap-up. The same with an audiobook I recently started.

What else do I hope to get to this month?

If time permits, I’ll probably start on my huge stack of Christmas books.

That’s my Reading Wrap Up for October 2021. How was your month? What is on your TBR for November?

    1. The official Agatha Christie site has a reading challenge that I’m working through this year. It’s helped me read more of her works.

  1. My October felt like it flew by as well. I feel like my just started school a couple weeks ago.

I’m sorry about losing your dad. I hope the pain stings a little less as times goes on.

I’m going to read The Holiday Swap in December. It is a getting some buzz, and I’m excited to dive in.

Good luck with going back to work, and good luck with your November reading!
