Happy Birthday to Me! Well, not quite, but soon. Real soon! How soon? Tomorrow! To celebrate, I decided to do this Birthday Book Tag I found over at Read All the Things! for this week’s book tag.

The Birthday Book Tag! Happy Birthday to Me!

BIRTHDAY CAKE: A BOOK WITH A CLICHÉ PLOT, BUT YOU LOVE IT ANYWAY

Girl sees the boy of her dreams, turns to her neighbor for help; the girl and the neighbor end up together. It sounds a lot like a rom-com that you’ve seen a lot. But you still watch it, right? Well, that’s how I feel about Better Than the Movies.

PARTY GUESTS: MOST ANTICIPATED UPCOMING RELEASES

It’s hard not to list EVERY book I consider my most anticipated upcoming releases. Do I include ARCs that I can read now or books I wish I could read now but have to wait like everyone else? Or may one of each?

The Christie Affair is a fictional tale of what happened over those 11-days that Agatha Christie was missing. It is due to be released on February 1, 2022.

One for All is a gender-bent retelling of The Three Musketeers. It is to be released on March 8, 2022

BIRTHDAY PRESENTS: A BOOK THAT SURPRISED YOU

Touted as a romance, Serena Singh Flips the Script surprised me because it isn’t a romance. Yes, there is a bit of romance, but it’s not in the typical sense. Most of the book is about Serena realizing that she can be her own woman and have a relationship, that she doesn’t have to give up one for the other.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SONG: A BOOK THAT DESERVES THE HYPE

I am not one to get on the hype train for books. It seems like I am disappointed by quite a few books that are hyped. The only book I think truly deserves the hype is Legendborn. I am waiting to hear more about the next book in the series, Bloodmarked.

MUSIC: A BOOK WITH MEMORABLE QUOTES

Honestly, I’m not a quote collector. I will see a line in a book and think, “Wow, that’s awesome!” But I don’t keep a journal of them. Does that make me weird?

GETTING OLDER: A BOOK YOU READ WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG, BUT WOULD APPRECIATE MORE IF YOU’D READ IT WHEN YOU WERE OLDER

I don’t know if I can list just one. When I was in high school, I read many “classics” that I didn’t enjoy. Was it because I was forced to read them? Or was it because I was too young to understand the message? Many people seem to enjoy Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice, and I think they are just ok. But I also read them as a 15-16-year-old who knew little of love and life. Would I have liked them more if I read them now as an adult? Maybe, but I won’t try reading them again as I don’t like rereading books.

BIRTHDAY MEMORIES: A BOOK THAT MAKES YOU HAPPY

A book that makes me happy? Is it strange that I am listing two books that made me happy when I read them even though I cried at the end?

A Man Called Ove is about a curmudgeon who just wants to join his wife in death. But the universe seems to have other ideas.

The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot is about two people coming together at the worst possible time and working hard to leave their mark on the world.

When you read these, make sure you have some tissues nearby, you’re going to need them!

And that’s the Birthday Book Tag! I would love to know your answers to these questions, and let me know if you do this tag to celebrate your birthday!

  1. Happy Birthday! Ah, Ove… makes me both happy and sad! As for your guests… I’m reading “The Mystery of Mrs. Christie” by Marie Benedict right now which is also about those 11 days she went missing. Still, I’m hoping to get the ARC of this book as well…

  2. Happy belated birthday!

I disliked books I had to read for school too, for precisely the reasons you listed. I have re-read a few of them and found that I do love them now that I have some relevant life experience. I don’t know why we do this to kids and teens.

I hate to cry but I have to admit that I did love Ove. Such a fantastic book!
