Happy September, y’all! The kids are back in school, and the temperatures are dropping. The leaves are changing color. Am I the only one excited by the arrival of September? Don’t get me wrong, August was a pretty good month. We started it on vacation, and ended it snuggled on the couch watching a movie. I’d say it was a decent month. Who’s ready for my August 2025 wrap-up and a sneak peek at my September plans?

Let’s hear it for another completed TBR! I even managed to dip into my September TBR. And that’s a good thing, because I’ve got one heck of a TBR for September. I would love to say I’ve knocked some books off my Summer TBR, but that was a bust in August. Oh well!

Of the nine books I read in August, there weren’t any 5-star reads. But there were several that were close. At 4.75 stars, SON by Johana Gustawsson & Thomas Enger is my highest rated read. At 4.5 stars, there’s Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez, Accomplice to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer, and The Mysterious Case of the Missing Crime Writer by Ragnar Jonasson.

August Blog Wrap-Up and September Plans

In August, I published 11 posts. Of that 11, four were reviews and four were Top Ten Tuesday posts. I even managed a Foodie Friday post sharing my ten favorite snacks.

In July 2024, I wrote a post about the app Too Good To Go, which was also my most popular post overall in August. Of the 11 posts I published in August, my list of the ten biggest books on my TBR has been the most popular.

In September, I’m hoping to publish five reviews and five Top Ten Tuesday posts. There’s also a cookbook that I need to review. I’m still working on a craft project, but it probably won’t be ready for a little while because I’m still ironing out the kinks.

Personal Stuff

August was pretty relaxing for me. We went on vacation the first week of August, and had a lot of fun exploring Brockville, Ontario. We lucked out, and stayed in a one bedroom apartment in a secure building. Even better, it was located right on the St. Lawrence River. We got to see everyone enjoying the river, and I finally got to see cargo ships in the river! Our first day there, we walked through the historic district. By the end of the day, we had walked roughly 10km. For someone who barely walks 1.5km in a day, I was so sore and tired at the end of it all. We barely moved the car the whole time we were there!

Brockville Marina

We spend the rest of the month getting our youngest ready for her final year of high school. I’m not sure when that happened! And then the finally weekend, my husband and I went out and did some local exploring. We’ve been wanting to go see the statue of Jumbo the Elephant, and walk at the first elevated park in Canada. Thankfully, they’re both in the same city and basically across the street from each other. The story behind Jumbo is quite sad, and tragic. Jumbo was part of the P.T. Barnum Circus when he was tragically hit by a train. On the 100th anniversary, the city of St. Thomas, Ontario erected a statue in his honor.

Jumbo the Elephant

What will September bring us? Who knows! School has started, so there’s the stress that brings about. We’ve been talking about going to a small comic con in a week or so. Football season starts this week. And we have some projects we want to work on around the house. Like I said, who really knows what the month will bring!

  1. An elephant hit by a train? Yikes.

We like the parts of the St. Lawrence River that we’ve seen. Your home base sounds like a good one. I like when we’re able to park the car and explore on foot.

I almost checked out Accomplice to the Villain from Libby this week. Now I wish I had! I requested the new Sangu Mandanna book instead and decided to check out a collection of short stories for the wait.
