Happy New Year y’all! Yes, I know we are already a week into 2022, but I still want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. I wanted to share my 2021 reading wrap up and some of my goals for 2022. Some of these stats are from my record-keeping, and others are from Goodreads.

I know that some of the math may not work out in the table. That’s because I used whole numbers above, but in my journal, I didn’t.

From Goodreads

  • Reading Goal: 30
  • Total Number Books Read: 100
  • Total Number Pages Read: 32,584
  • Average Book Length: 325
  • Average Rating: 3.9

I find it interesting that my total number of pages read an almost 1,000-page difference between my count and Goodreads, and I logged the actual number of pages I read versus the last page in the book. Some books had ten or more pages of extra content that I didn’t count where Goodreads did, and other books didn’t start on page one, and I adjusted for that in my reading journal. I didn’t realize the total difference would be that big.

I’m also not sure how Goodreads tracks pages when you add audiobooks. And for those wondering, yes, I marked the audiobook for those listened to.

Goals for 2022

My goals for 2022 are pretty simple. I started working again in November 2021, so my reading goal isn’t to be based on the number of books I read in 2021. Instead, I think I’ll aim for 52 books, which is a book a week.

I also want to read my shelves a bit more, as I accrued quite a few books last year.

  • Non-fiction books: 5
  • Agatha Christie novels: 18
  • Fiction: 88

I know those numbers may not seem very high, but when I used to only have 5-10 books on my shelf at any moment, that is quite a bit for me.

As for reading challenges, this year, I will be focusing on only two: Read Christie 2022 and the Books and Lala Buzzword Challenge. I’ll go into more details about each challenge in a future post.

I will admit, I was surprised how things went for me in 2021. A few times, reading just wasn’t something I wanted to do. But it did help me get through a challenging place as well. And because of that, I will be eternally grateful to books. How did your 2021 Reading Wrap Up look? What are some of your reading goals for 2022?

  1. I’ve been using Story Graph alongside Goodreads this year and I noticed a 1,000 page difference between them!

  2. Wow, I love your chart on your reading. Well done! Your goals are totally realistic. When I worked, I would only read about a book a week, and sometimes much less.

    1. With my previous jobs I would average 2 books a month. But with my current position, I actually have time to read at work.

  3. GR counts whatever is entered in the page count, so there’s not a great way for them to track audiobooks. I’ve noticed sometimes it’s blank and sometimes it shows the number of parts. My page counts there are so far off, I don’t even look at them.

Good luck with your challenges! One of my goals is to read less books in 2022. I want to focus some more time on blogging, actually writing reviews, and some other projects I’ve neglected.

    Happy 2022!

  4. That’s a lot of bookish progress! I still think a book a week is a perfect low-stress goal. And Goodreads annoys me with the way it tracks pages for an audiobook, and the way you can’t count pages for DNF books. Oh well. GR needs a major overhaul, and I don’t know that Amazon cares enough to do that. It’s one reason I started keeping a separate book journal, too!
