I read Bad Cree in 2023, and enjoyed it immensely, and I think everyone should give it a read. On the flipside, I’m not in a hurry to read Meet Me at the Lake. While I’ve heard good things about it, I DNF the author’s previous book and I’m not sure I will enjoy it. The other three books seem interesting to me, and I hope to be able to read them before the discussions begin on March 4.
Have you read any of these contenders? Do any of them pique your curiosity? Which book do you think will be the book to carry us forward?

Wow, this is an incredibly varied list of books! I hope you enjoy them!
Ooh I hadn’t seen the shortlist yet – thanks for sharing! The only one I’ve heard of on the list is Bad Cree – I’m interested in it, but it’s got horror listed in the genres, and I’m easily terrified, so I am a bit scared to try it – is it super scary or creepy? Will you be trying to read along for the rest of them this year?
I was hesitant to read Bad Cree because it’s often listed as horror. But I didn’t find it super scary or creepy. If you’re familiar with the stories of the Wendigo, that’s the same vibe. As for reading the others on the short list, I’ve thought about giving them a try. A few years ago, I forced myself to read them all before the discussion round and almost got burned out. So instead this year, I may spread them all out.
