Happy September, y’all! How was your August? Mine wasn’t too bad, just busy with work. I may not have accomplished as much in August as I had hoped. But I don’t think it was too bad, either. That said, let’s look at my August 2023 wrap-up and September 2023 plans.

August 2023 Wrap-Up & September 2023 Plans

August 2023 Reading Wrap-Up & September TBR

Let’s flashback to my July 2023 Wrap-Up for a glimpse at what I had planned to read in August.

Of the five books on my TBR, I read three. Whoops!

Books Read in August 2023

These Deadly Games by Diana Urban | The African Samurai by Craig Shreve (review)

Board to Death by CJ Connor (review) | The Trouble with Hating You by Sajni Patel

Book Cover

Deserts, Driving, & Derelicts by Tonya Kappes | The Sunset Years of Agnes Sharp by Leonie Swann (review)

Lore Olympus: Volume One by Rachel Smythe | The Apollo Murders by Chris Hadfield

Book Cover

For me, this is funny to say, but my favorite book of the month was The Apollo Murders. What’s so funny about that? Easy, it’s not my typical genre. Well, not one that I have read in a LONG time. The teaser/tagline compares this to The Hunt for Red October, a book devoured ages ago. Sure, the ending wasn’t 100% satisfying, but that isn’t taking away my desire to read the next book in the series.

I read a lot of heavy books in August, lots of death and murder. Fingers crossed that my September is lighter.

September 2023 TBR

I have three ARCs to read this month, plus the one leftover from July/August.  The only other book I’m hoping to get done this month is for a year-long challenge. The challenge I’m doing this year is a Buzzwordathon from Kayla at Books and Lala. Five books may be a long TBR, but hopefully, one I can complete with ease! I will admit, I have started reading two of these books.

Blog Wrap-Up & Plans

August was a pretty good month for blogging, as I wrote eleven posts. Of those 11 posts, five were Top Ten Tuesday posts, and three were reviews. There was even a cookbook review in August. I haven’t done much regarding food content this year, but I have a cookbook review scheduled or two planned for this month.

The most popular post from August was Book Covers Featuring Water: Recent Reads. The most popular post overall from August was one I posted in September 2022, Ten Book Titles Starting with the Letter A. As the Letter A post has consistently been popular, I published The B’s Have It: Ten Titles Starting with B.

August Life Updates

I think we finally have the child ready for school next week. If she doesn’t have everything now, it’s too bad, as she starts school on Wednesday! What else did we do in August? We started painting the hall on the first floor. That sounds impressive, but it’s not that much space. We’re slowly working on it when we have the energy after work.

Healthwise, things were okay except for my massive migraine early in August. It wasn’t just a migraine, there was also a tension headache and muscle tightness radiating up from my shoulders. Oh, and the weather influences as well. A total perfect storm that had me losing a weekend to medication induced sleep.

I know the doctor isn’t going to be happy with me when I see her at the end of the month as I have made no progress on the goals she set for me in June. There’s still time, though; wish me luck!

That is my August 2023 wrap-up and September 2023 plans. How was your August? Did you read any good books? What are your plans for September?

  1. Getting kids ready for school was always a big thing, especially trying to get them back on a decent bedtime schedule. It looks like a good month overall, except the migraine part. I hope you have and amazing September Pam and good luck working on those goals the doctor set for you.
