Howdy, y’all! It’s time for my October 2024 Goodreads TBR Shelf Clean-Up. I wonder if this will help me reduce the number of books on my TBR. Who am I kidding? I’m a reader; of course, I will forever add books. In October 2024, I had 599 books. Today, I have 590. It’s not too shabby, as I’ve added a few books to my TBR in the past month. Will my November 2024 Goodreads TBR shelf clean-up help that number drop?
I saw this Goodreads TBR Clean-Up post at Megan’s Book Stacks and knew I had to try it. Megan found it over at MegaBunnyReads.

How It Works:
- Go to your Goodreads want-to-read shelf.
- Use a random number generator to pick a number between 1 and however many books are on the list.
- Go to that book and look at the four after it for a total of 5.
- Read the synopses of the books.
- Decide: keep it or delete it?
- Discuss here.
Books To Be Read: 590
Starting Number: 268 It looks like I’m going through the books I added in December 2021.

Let’s get this November 2024 Goodreads TBR Shelf Clean-Up underway!
A Boy Called Christmas by Matt Haig
You are about to read the true story of Father Christmas.
It is a story that proves that nothing is impossible.
If you are one of those people who believe that some things are impossible, you should put this book down right away. It is most certainly not for you.
Because this book is FULL of impossible things.
Are you still reading?
Good.
Then let us begin . . .
My Thoughts
A middle grade (??) Christmas book. And it sounds like fun. Why wouldn’t I want to read it?

Digging Up Love by Chandra Blumberg
Alisha Blake works her magic in the kitchen, creating delectable desserts for her grandfather’s restaurant in rural Illinois. Though Alisha relishes the close relationship she has with her family, she can’t help but dream about opening a cookie shop in Chicago. She may be a small-town baker, but Alisha has big ambitions.
Then, a dinosaur bone turns up in her grandparents’ backyard. When paleontologist Quentin Harris arrives to see the discovery for himself, he’s hoping that the fossil will distract him from a recent painful breakup. Instead, he finds Alisha—and sparks fly. The big-city academic and the hometown baker seem destined for a happily ever after.
But Alisha is scared to fall in love. And Quentin’s trying to make a name for himself in a competitive field, which gets even more complicated when the press shows up at the dig site. For love to prevail, the two may have to put old bones aside—and focus on the future.
My Thoughts
A small-town romance with someone who bakes? And a scientist? This sounds like such a fun read.

Murder with Fried Chicken and Waffles by A.L. Herbert
Welcome to Mahalia’s Sweet Tea–the finest soul food restaurant in Prince George’s County, Maryland. In between preparing her famous cornbread and mashed potatoes so creamy “they’ll make you want to slap your Momma,” owner Halia Watkins is about to dip her spoon into a grisly mystery. . .
Halia Watkins has her hands full cooking, hosting, and keeping her boisterous young cousin, Wavonne, from getting too sassy with customers. Having fast-talking entrepreneur Marcus Rand turn up in her kitchen is annoying enough when he’s alive–but finding his dead body face-down on her ceramic tile after hours is much worse.
Marcus had his enemies, and the cast iron frying pan beside his corpse suggests that, at last, his shady business deals went too far. Halia is desperate to keep Sweet Tea’s name out of the sordid spotlight, but her efforts only make Wavonne a prime suspect. Now Halia will have to serve up the real villain–before the killer returns for a second helping. . .
My Thoughts
That title alone is enough to make me want to read it! It’s so funny. Then add to the fact that it’s a cozy mystery around a restaurant. What do you think I’m going to say?

Violets Are Blue by Barbara Dee
Twelve-year-old Wren loves makeup—special effect makeup, to be exact. When she is experimenting with new looks, Wren can create a different version of herself. A girl who isn’t in a sort-of-best friendship with someone who seems like she hates her. A girl whose parents aren’t divorced and doesn’t have to learn to like her new stepmom.
So, when Wren and her mom move to a new town for a fresh start, she is cautiously optimistic. And things seem to fall into place when Wren meets potential friends and gets selected as the makeup artist for her school’s upcoming production of Wicked.
Only, Wren’s mom isn’t doing so well. She’s taking a lot of naps, starts snapping at Wren for no reason, and always seems to be sick. And what’s worse, Wren keeps getting hints that things aren’t going well at her new job at the hospital, where her mom is a nurse. And after an opening night disaster leads to a heartbreaking discovery, Wren realizes that her mother has a serious problem—a problem that can’t be wiped away or covered up.
After all the progress she’s made, can Wren start over again with her devastating new normal? And will she ever be able to heal the broken trust with her mom?
My Thoughts
I’m not 100% sure how I feel about this book. It sounds interesting, but I’m not sure if I want to read it.

Jagged Little Pill by Eric Smith
Swallow it down—what a jagged little pill . . .
Jagged Little Pill: The Novel follows the intertwining lives of five teens whose world is changed forever after the events at a party.
Adopted Frankie struggles to see eye-to-eye with her mother—who would rather ignore a problem and preserve their “perfect” life than stand up for what’s right. Jo just wants her mom to accept her queer identity—and is totally crushed when Frankie, the only person who really gets her, finds herself infatuated with someone new. Phoenix tries to find his place at the new school and balance wanting to spend time with Frankie but knowing he also has to help out with his sick sister at home. Bella wants to enjoy the end of high school and just head off to college without a hitch. Everyone expects Frankie’s brother Nick to be the golden boy, but even though he just got into his dream school, he’s not even sure he’s a good person. Each of their stories intersects when Bella is sexually assaulted at a party, and it looks like the perpetrator might get away with it.
My Thoughts
The novel is based on the musical, which was inspired by Alanis Morrisette’s best-selling 90s CD. I love that CD; it was perfection to my ears then and now. If you know, you know! Besides, I own a copy of the book.

Wrap Up
And that is my November 2024 Goodreads TBR Shelf Clean-Up. It doesn’t look like I cleaned my shelf much! I’m keeping four of the five books. LOL!
This was fun. I may do it now and then to help keep my shelf realistic. In the past, I just added books without really thinking about it. Will I stop doing that? Of course not! What kind of animal do you think I am?
What do you think? Have you tried doing something like this to see if you can get your TBR under control?

I agree with all your choices! I *loved* Jagged Little Pill and was just listening to that album yesterday because Ironic randomly popped up on my playlist (and now it’s in my head again lol). I didn’t know there was a book for it too but my curiousity is piqued! I hope you enjoy these whenever you get around to reading them 🙂
Oooh! Sounds like a great idea! Absolutely have to do this one myself! 😂
Thanks for sharing!
