Happy September y’all! I guess it’s Pumpkin Spice Latte season; I’m not sure because I’m not a coffee drinker. I do tend to drink chai tea more in the cooler months, probably October-January. I came across The Pumpkin Spice Latte Book Tag over at Pretty Purple Polka Dots. I decided it was a great place to start September. So let’s check out my answers.

Pumpkin Spice Latte: a book everyone likes to hate but is delicious

It’s hard to figure out what other people hate and what I like to think is delicious. I went through my Goodreads and looked at the average rating of books that I rated highly. And guess what, I found one with an average rating of 3.25, and I rated it a 5. What book? The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules by Catharina Ingleman-Sundberg. I don’t understand why people seem to not like this book. It’s great fun!

“Fall is my favorite season”: a cliché you can’t get enough of

Fall (autumn) is my favorite season! I don’t say that to be cliche or trendy or whatever. It has always been my favorite season. It may have something to do with the fact my birthday is in October. But I love to see the leaves changing colors and the cooler temperatures.

A trope that I can’t get enough of? I’m not sure, but lately, I’ve enjoyed the found family trope. It’s something that I find interesting. Sometimes you have to find your own family, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Sweater Weather to T-Shirt Weather: a book you thought was one thing but was completely different by the end

I bet most people answer this with a book they thought would be average at best but turned out great. For me, I’m going to go from a book that I had high hopes for and turned out it was below average. Which book is that? The Hundred-Foot Journey by Richard C. Morais. It took me 3 weeks to finish this short book. It was a struggle to read, and the book only earned 2-stars from me.

“Spoops”: do you have a spooky book on your tbr?

If by spooky, you expect horror, then the answer is a resounding no. I’m not a fan of horror movies or books. I’m a chicken like that. If you mean spooky like fun, campy, Halloween spooky. Then yup, I’ve got some. Witch Please by Ann Aguirre and The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling are just two.

Tarot Reading: a five-star prediction

I’m trying not to go the easy route and name Rick Riordan’s book that is coming in October. So I’ll narrow my choices to just my September TBR. Okay, that’s not much easier as there are 10 books on that list. But 10 is better than 400+ choices. I think I’ll go with George by Alex Gino. I’m reading it as part of Banned Books Week at the end of the month.

Sephora Sage + Crystal Set: a book that meant well but missed the mark by a landslide

This is a hard one for me. I had to dig through my read books to find one that I really think could have been good but just wasn’t. And not by a little, but by a lot! The False Friend by Myla Goldberg is about a woman who had a friend disappear over 20 years ago and is suddenly riddled with guilt. She swears the story she told in the past isn’t the true story, but no one believes her now. It sounds like it should be a great read, right? Then why did it suck so much? The average rating for the book is 2.78, with almost 3,000 ratings. I know, not many ratings, but when so many people rate it a 3 or less, something has to be missing.

And that ends the Pumpkin Spice Latte Book Tag. I would love to know how you would answer these questions.

  1. This is a fun tag! I just finished Witch Please! and enjoyed it very much and I’ve also enjoyed the Ex Hex which I read a couple of weeks ago. I think you’ll enjoy them both.
