Ten Gift Ideas for Foodies

Happy Wednesday, y’all! This year I’m starting my gift guides early to give you plenty of time to find the perfect gift. This week, I’m focusing on the foodies in our lives. Are the foodies in your life hard to shop for? This list of gift ideas for foodies is here to help.

I tried to come up with a list of gift ideas for every budget. So let’s check out my gift ideas for foodies.

Journal

I know a journal may seem like a strange gift for a foodie. But why wouldn’t they want one? They can use it to track their supplies, recipes they want to try, places to shop for ingredients, restaurants they want to visit, and cookbooks to pick up. And if they like to host dinner parties, a journal can be used to plan menus.

Personalized Tools

While many foodies have tools they swear by, there’s no reason not to get them a new one that is personalized for them. What does this look like? An apron with their name embroidered and in their favorite color—a tea towel or cutting board featuring a special recipe.

Special Ingredients

I love looking for ingredients that are outside of my usual. Those can be spice blends, sauces, or extracts. If your gift recipient loves cheese, even a small collection of cheeses could be a great gift.

Cooking Lessons

I feel like everyone who likes cooking would love a class to either improve their skills or learn new ones. These lessons can be done in an afternoon or over the course of a week. You can find them at your local farmers’ market, favorite restaurants, or from a travel advisor if you want to go to Spain to learn about the food and wine. I’ve even found online classes that help coach you through wine-and-cheese pairings and how to build a lovely cheeseboard.

Tickets to a Food Show or Event

I’m fortunate to live near the largest Oktoberfest celebration outside of Germany. That’s an event I feel many people would love to attend. Locally, there is a Taco and Beer Festival that serves as a charity fundraiser while still exposing people to local tacos and beer. Then some shows hype new products from manufacturers.

Date Night at Home

A date night at home can be done in a few different ways. A recipe can be selected and made together at home. Or, you could turn it into a contest like the TV show Chopped. Each person picks a few random ingredients, then they have to make a meal from them.

Or you can base a menu off of a favorite movie. Then watch the movie and eat the food! Think spaghetti and meatballs to go with Lady and the Tramp.

Food Crawl

There are a couple of ways you can do a food crawl. I have an organization that hosts a local food crawl where you buy tickets and redeem them at various restaurants. It’s a great way to get a taste of food from a local spot without committing to a whole meal.

Another way you can do a food crawl is to hop from restaurant to restaurant for each course of your meal. Appetizers in one place. Entrees in another. Dessert in a third.

Food Trail or Food Tour

What is a food trail? Basically, it is a group of businesses offering similar items that invite you to visit them all to sample them. I’ve seen wine tasting trails, beer trails, cheese trails, chocolate trails, apple trails, and butter tart trails. All of those trails are within a two-hour drive of me.

Board Game

Maybe you want to avoid food as a direct gift idea. How about a food-themed board game? One of my favorites is based on the Great British Baking Show.

Make a Donation to a Local Food Bank

Does the person on your list insist they don’t want you to get them anything? Maybe make a small donation to a local food bank instead.
