Happy Tuesday y’all! This week’s topic for Top Ten Tuesday, Jana from over at That Artsy Reader Girl, wants us to share books we’ve read on vacation. A great idea! BUT there’s a slight problem with that, at least for me. What is the problem, you may ask? I rarely get to read on vacation, as we typically drive where ever we go. Guess who the driver is? That’s right, me! But this summer, I did manage to go book shopping, both on and off vacation. So, I am finally going to share my summer 2022 book haul!
My favorite bookstore is the Book Outlet. Yes, the one a lot of people order online from. But there is a brick-and-mortar storefront. It’s just outside Niagara Falls, ON, if you’re ever in the area. This summer, I got to make a couple of trips down there. I’m proud that I controlled myself and didn’t buy every book I wanted, just enough! Interestingly, most of my summer 2022 book haul contains Christmas books.
All titles will lead to Goodreads.
Let’s get to why we’re all here- my summer 2022 book haul!
Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake by Alexis Hall

But where there’s a whisk, there’s a way, and Rosaline has just landed a spot on the nation’s most beloved baking show.
Winning the prize money would give her daughter the life she deserves—and Rosaline is determined to stick to the instructions. However, more than collapsing trifles stand between Rosaline and sweet, sweet victory. Suave, well-educated, and parent-approved Alain Pope knows all the right moves to sweep her off her feet, but it’s shy electrician Harry Dobson who makes Rosaline question her long-held beliefs—about herself, her family, and her desires.
Rosaline fears falling for Harry is a guaranteed recipe for disaster. Yet as the competition—and the ovens—heat up, Rosaline starts to realize the most delicious bakes come from the heart.

The War Outside by Monica Hesse
- Genre: Young Adult, Historical Fiction
- Release Date: September 2018
It’s 1944, and World War II is raging across Europe and the Pacific. The war seemed far away from Margot in Iowa and Haruko in Colorado–until they were uprooted to dusty Texas, all because of the places their parents once called home: Germany and Japan.
Haruko and Margot meet at the high school in Crystal City, a “family internment camp” for those accused of colluding with the enemy. The teens discover that they are polar opposites in so many ways, except for one that seems to override all the others: the camp is changing them, day by day and piece by piece. Haruko finds herself consumed by fear for her soldier brother and distrust of her father, who she knows is keeping something from her. And Margot is doing everything she can to keep her family whole as her mother’s health deteriorates and her rational, patriotic father becomes a man who distrusts America and fraternizes with Nazis.
With everything around them falling apart, Margot and Haruko find solace in their growing, secret friendship. But in a prison the government has deemed full of spies, can they trust anyone–even each other?

Procrastibaking: 100 Recipes for Getting Nothing Done in the Most Delicious Way Possible by Erin Gardner
- Genre: Cookbook
- Release Date: March 2020
Sometimes you need to take a mini vacation from the demands of daily life, and the kitchen is the best space for it. How can you return those emails when there’s dough on your hands? It would be counterproductive to handle clean laundry after dipping chocolates all afternoon, right? It’s no coincidence that apple season coincides with tax time (for us extension filers, of course)—the universe is sending you a very clear message.
Pastry chef and beloved blogger Erin Gardner provides the ultimate guide to procrastibaking with pride and purpose in this inspired collection of 100 recipes, from easy one-hour projects to weekend affairs. From Case-of-the-Mondays Morning Treats to Late-for-Everything Loaf Cakes and Fear-of-Success Snack Cakes, this book has a chapter for every procrastibaking need and recipes to satisfy any craving for distraction. Not feeling that work project? Work on some Peanut Butter S’more Bars instead. Term paper due tomorrow? Making some No-Bake Cookies-n-Cream Pie will get the creative juices flowing. Does your mother-in-law have you channeling Scrooge? This calls for a procrasti-masterpiece, like a Gingerbread House…from scratch.
So don’t be ashamed. Put down the laundry basket. Ignore the emails.
It’s time to procrastibake.

I love getting bargains. I used to visit The Book Outlet stores whenever I saw them and always came out with a bag of books. A nice mix here, Pam and I hope you enjoy them all, especially all those Christmas books.
I’m glad you were finally able to do some vacation buying. You deserve it!
I’m so ready for Christmas books! Love your Christmas in July book haul ♥️
My TTT: https://bookbabenails.wordpress.com/2022/10/11/top-ten-tuesday-books-i-read-on-vacation/
Looks like a great haul! I loved Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake.
What a great summer haul! I’m loving the amount of winter and Christmas reads sprinkled in. I’ve only read A Very Merry Match, which was a lot of fun, but I’m tempted to add these others to my TBR pile … I really can’t resist a Christmas book.
Visiting a bookstore on vacation is definitely dangerous. I would probably come back with an extra suitcase full of books!
This looks like a great book haul! I’ve got Oona Out of Order and Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake on my TBR too – hopefully you enjoy the heck out of all of these!
I have never shopped on Book Outlet (because that would be admitting I intend to buy books, LOL), but have heard great things about it. I imagine the store would be fabulous too, nice haul!
I am loving your Summer book haul especially the Christmas ones. Who could resist those covers?
Great haul! 🙌 Do you ever listen to audio books while you drive?
I need Procrastibaking! That’s a great book haul. Here
I need Procrastibaking! Great book haul. Here’s my TTT: https://bonniereadsandwrites.com/2022/10/11/top-ten-tuesday-3/
I read a lot of books on vacation, but never while driving. My husband is always the driver, but I get sick if I try to read in the car. Sometimes we listen to audiobooks. Problem is, they often put me to sleep! Ha ha.
Happy TTT!

Procrastibake! That is exactly what I was just thinking of doing not even five minutes ago. 😂 That sounds like a book I need to get my hands on asap! This looks like a great haul. I hope you enjoy all of these books!
Such a great looking haul! I hope you get to read them all soon!
Have a great week!
Emily @ Budget Tales Book Blog
Love a good book haul! That was always some of my favorite videos or even blog posts to put together. Always fun to gather everything and see what books I picked up. 🙂 Thanks so much for visiting my website on this week.
All those holiday books – including a Colgan, which I enjoyed before. AND, I have Oona on my TBR, so will be curious about what you think. AND Procrastibake is not for me, but I have the perfect recipient and it’ll be in her Christmas box. Thanks for the suggestion!
Terrie @ Bookshelf Journeys
Procrastibake sounds like fun!! I do want to read Oona too, but it seems hard to find here.
Can never go wrong with Agatha Christie
