Happy October y’all! It’s my birthday month–yay! Other than that, how in the world is it October already? This year has been flying by! How was your September? Mine wasn’t too bad, other than being laid out for a week with a cold. That said, let’s look at my September 2023 wrap-up and October 2023 plans.
September 2023 Reading Wrap-Up & October TBR
Let’s flashback to my August 2023 Wrap-Up for a glimpse at what I had planned to read in September.
- Reykjavik: A Crime Story by Ragnar Jonasson and Katrin Jakobsdottir (ARC)
- Love of My Lives by Yamile Saied Mendez (ARC)
- The Christmas Wager by Holly Cassidy (ARC)
- The Library of Lost and Found by Phaedra Patrick (Buzzwordathon)
- The Housekeepers by Alex Hay (ARC)
Wow, that was an ambitious TBR. I still haven’t read The Housekeepers, as other ARCs have just taken precedence. I will read it, as it was a book I was excited to read. It threw me off as they didn’t approve my request until the end of July. I plan to read it before the end of 2023, but I won’t keep adding it to my TBR.
Books Read in September 2023
The Library of Lost and Found by Phaedra Patrick | Reykjavik: A Crime Story by Ragnar Jonasson and Katrin Jakobsdottir (review)
The Dos and Donuts of Love by Adiba Jaigirdar | The Witch Haven by Sasha Peyton Smith
The Christmas Wager by Holly Cassidy (review) | Haikyu!! Vol. 3 by Haruichi Furudate
Heartstopper: Volume One by Alice Oseman | The Secret Service of Tea and Treason by India Holton
Love of My Lives by Yamile Saied Mendez (review) | A Whole New World by Liz Braswell
A Traitor in Whitehall by Julia Kelly (review)
My favorite book of the month has to be Reykjavik. It was absolute perfection! That said, there were some other great reads this month. I posted a One-Word Description post early last week. You can check it out here for some insight into most of the books I read in September.
October 2023 TBR
I have four ARCs left to read this month, but two of them I’m pushing to the bottom of my list as they are Christmas reads. And being in the Spooky month, it feels strange reading Christmas books. The only other book I’m hoping to get done this month is for a year-long challenge. The challenge I’m doing this year is a Buzzwordathon from Kayla at Books and Lala. Three books is a TBR I can complete with ease! I will admit I have started reading one of these books.
- The Defector by Chris Hadfield (ARC)
- The Predictable Heartbreaks of Imogen Finch by Jacqueline Firkins
- Blood Like Magic by Liselle Sambury (Buzzwordathon)
Blog Wrap-Up & Plans
September was a pretty good month of blogging. I published ten posts, which included three reviews, four TTT posts, and even a cookbook review. I have at least three reviews and five TTT posts planned in October. There is also a cookbook review on the way this month. I may even manage a second before the month is over!
The most popular post I published in September was Autumn 2023 TBR: Ten Books I Hope to Read. The most popular post overall from August was one I posted in September 2022, Ten Book Titles Starting with the Letter A.
September Life Updates
The school year has started okay. There’s been a few bumps, as we were all down for about a week with a cold. We did manage to make a trip to the zoo that we had wanted to take back in July. We concluded that going in the fall is better than the summer as the weather is more agreeable and the crowds are smaller. A funny side note: last week, the Toronto Zoo said they would accept prescriptions from doctors for people to visit as a benefit of physical and mental health. Too bad it’s at least an hour away!
October is a bit of a chaotic month for us. Between the Canadian Thanksgiving (9th), my birthday (15th), Halloween (31st), and my mom visiting for at least a week (generally between Thanksgiving and my birthday), a lot is going on. Oh, and we’re repainting. Yup, it sounds a bit chaotic to me!
That is my September 2023 wrap-up and October 2023 plans. How was your September? Did you read any good books? What are your plans for October?

Reykjavik:is on my TBR so I’m happy to hear you liked it. I think I’ve liked every Phaedra Patrick books I’ve read.
I must admit, I’m jealous of the timing of Thanksgiving in Canada. I would much rather celebrate the harvest in October than at the end of November.
We do both in our household, as I’m American. Typically, for the American Thanksgiving, we do it on the Sunday after the holiday, and that’s when we put up our tree.
Happy birthday, early! My daughter’s birthday is the 25th of this month 🙂 I already feel like it is approaching too fast, she will be 21. I have no idea where the time goes! Your October sounds BUSY, but hopefully it will be a good busy!
