Happy Sunday, y’all! Today, as part of my blogmas series, I thought I would share my nine favorite holiday watches. These could be the childhood favorites that I still watch, or recent releases that make me smile. It doesn’t feel like it’s the holidays until I watch these nine favorites.
Some of these holiday specials have been part of my life since I was a little girl; a couple have become favorites since I became a parent, and a few are newer releases that make me smile. But no matter what, all of these make me stop what I’m doing for a while.
Let’s check out my nine favorite holiday watches!
Holiday Inn
I feel like this movie is often ignored and forgotten about by so many people. Released in 1942, Holiday Inn features Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire and introduced us to the song White Christmas.
Miracle on 34th Street
This movie was my Dad’s favorite holiday movie, and as a Daddy’s girl growing up, of course it was mine. When I learned it was released in the summer of 1947, I remember laughing. Who would have thought it was a good idea to release a Christmas movie in July?
Christmas Eve on Sesame Street
Released in 1978, this special has been a part of many a Christmas! I even had the soundtrack on vinyl when I was little, and it was my favorite album to listen to year-round!
A Muppet Family Christmas
Released in 1987, I thought this special was a fever dream for so many years. Why? Because it is virtually impossible to find a physical copy anymore. And then one day, while searching for something else, I came across a full version on YouTube! This special has become a family favorite, and we often quote it! Sadly, A Muppet Family Christmas will never be added to any streaming service other than YouTube because the show features characters from The Muppets, Sesame Street, and Fraggle Rock, all of which are owned by different companies.
The Muppet Christmas Carol
Honestly, as a kid, I was terrified of The Christmas Carol movies. I remember watching a couple of adaptations as a kid, and I was so terrified. Then, in 1992, Jim Henson Productions released The Muppet Christmas Carol. It is a family favorite. In December 2025, my husband and I went to a showing of the movie with a live orchestra playing the soundtrack. It was an amazing experience, and one I highly recommend.
Phineas and Ferb Christmas Vacation
My girls grew up with Phineas and Ferb. My husband follows Dan Povenmire (Dr. Doofenshmirtz) on social media. And who can resist a snowman that says, “Follow me! Wintertime is fun!”
The Christmas Chronicles
Who knew that Kurt Russell would be the Santa Claus we all needed? Released in 2018, Netflix knew that.
Klaus
Who doesn’t love an origin story? And Klaus was so good, it was Netflix’s first animated movie to be nominated for an Oscar. Honestly, it should have won too!
That Christmas
Another Netflix creation that is so much fun to watch! Created by Richard Curtis, the man behind Four Weddings and a Funeral and Love Actually, That Christmas is about a small town that nearly misses out on Santa’s visit because of the weather. Grab your hot chocolate, plenty of whippity cream, and enjoy this fun family movie!
