It’s the height of the fur trade in Canada, and Abigail Williams leaves her home in England and travels deep within the rugged wilderness to escape her scandalous past. With her young son in tow, Abby imagines a life on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River, in the rugged but beautiful Fort Edmonton, where she can mend horseshoes in her father’s blacksmith shop and her past will not be a hindrance to her happiness.
Life has other plans. The interest of Henry, an officer at the fort, and Gabriel, a French trapper, are not what she expected. While she wrestles with what future either man can give her, her past comes to haunt her, and she and her son must flee with a ragtag group of voyageurs to Montreal. The winter journey is fraught with dangers, from raging rivers to the chaos that is Lake Superior. But Abby is determined to create a new life for herself, whatever the barriers.
Valentine in Montreal by Heather O’Neill, Arizona O’Neill

- Genre: Fiction

In the tradition of the serialized novels of Charles Dickens, Heather O’Neill brings us Valentine in Montreal. Originally published in weekly instalments in the Montreal Gazette, this is the unforgettable story of Valentine, a lonely orphan working in a depanneur at a Montreal metro station, who spots her look-alike. As Valentine follows this seeming twin onto the subway and out into the city, her world is changed—she meets gangsters, composers, ballet dancers, and a cricket playing a mournful tune, and she experiences the city in all its teeming energy.
Valentine in Montreal is the playful, moving, and surprising story of a young woman who finds connection and the courage to break free of what has been holding her back. It’s also a celebration of Montreal and its artistry and vibrancy, both above and below ground. Illustrations by graphic artist Arizona O’Neill run throughout.

Sleeping with someone she barely knew was out of character; sleeping with a professional hockey player who bolted the morning after is a whole new level of embarrassing. Getting invited to spend the week at Tickle Tree Farm with her family this Christmas is a sure way to fill her with holiday spirit. Until the universe throws a Grinch in her festive plans in the form of the one man she hoped to avoid.
Nick King is a mess. After a significant injury lands him on the bench for every game for the rest of the month, he has more time to dwell on the one-night stand he can’t get out of his head. With time on his hands, his anxiety hovering, and the holidays around the corner, he figures visiting his sister and nephew at their Christmas tree farm will be a good way to lie low and sort himself out. He’s in for a surprise when it turns out Maisie is staying at his sister’s, and his attraction for her hasn’t lessened one bit in the last six months. Apparently, neither has her anger at him for bailing. But Christmas is the time for second chances, and the forced proximity may help Nick and Maisie unwrap feelings neither of them can walk away from twice.

Future Boy by Michael J. Fox and Nelle Fortenberry

- Genre: Nonfiction, Memoir
- Anticipated Release Date: October 14, 2025
In early 1985, Michael J. Fox was one of the biggest stars on television. His world was about to get even bigger, but only if he could survive the kind of double duty unheard of in Hollywood. Fox’s days were already dedicated to rehearsing and taping the hit sitcom Family Ties, but then the chance of a lifetime came his way. Soon, he committed his nights to a new time-travel adventure film being directed by Robert Zemeckis and produced by Steven Spielberg—Back to the Future. Sitcom during the day, movie at night—day after day, for months.
Fox’s nightly commute from a soundstage at Paramount to the back lot at Universal Studios, from one dream job to another, would become his own space-time continuum. It was in this time portal that Alex P. Keaton handed the baton to Marty McFly while Michael J. Fox tried to catch a few minutes of sleep. Alex’s bravado, Marty’s flair, and Fox’s comedic virtuosity all swirled together to create something truly special.
In Future Boy, Fox tells the remarkable story of playing two landmark roles at the same time—a slice of entertainment history that’s never been told. Using new interviews with the cast and crew of both projects, the result is a vividly drawn and eye-opening story of creative achievement by a beloved icon.
The Bodyguard Affair by Amy Lea

Enter Nolan Crosby, the PM’s new close protection officer (aka bodyguard)—and Andi’s failed one-night stand from three years ago. Nolan is in town very temporarily to care for his mother, who’s battling early-onset Alzheimer’s. But when the scandal erupts, Andi ropes him into a fake-dating plan.
As loyal employees, they’ll pretend to date for the summer, just long enough to put the scandal to bed and save their boss’s reputation. In an unexpected plot twist, Andi and Nolan discover that keeping their romance strictly fictional might be easier said than done.

I love the Canadian spin to your list!
I came across People Watching while I put mine together. Makes me realize I need to take a closer look at that one. It seems interesting. 🙂
Michael J Fox’s memoir definitely appeals.
Great idea! I have a bad habit of reading mostly American authors (with a large contingent of British authors as well). Adding some Canadians sounds like a good idea.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
It’s so easy to read mostly American and British authors, as there seems to be a disportionate amount of them. I’m glad to introduce you, and others, to lesser known authors.
Pam
Great idea for your list! Looks like some good books coming up. I hope you get to read and enjoy them.
People Watching sounds great! Hope you’ll love all of these!
I love how you represent, support, and teach us about Canadian authors!!
Thanks! It feels like there are so many wonderful Canadian authors out there that just don’t get the love and attention they deserve.
Pam
People Watching looks so cute!
Oh, a new Hannah Bonam-Young book! Yay!
I will be reading the Hannah Bonam-Young and the Amy Lea for sure.
THE FORT sounds excellent! I hadn’t heard of it before, so thanks for bringing it to my attention. I hope you enjoy all these.
Happy TTT!

And the cover! It’s so stunning!
Pam
Fabulous list! I’m going to have to look into the Michael J. Fox one. Also, I don’t know if I’ll read it (thrillers aren’t usually my thing) but I love that Chris Hadfield—and actual astronaut—wrote a novel set in space.
This is actually the 2nd book Hadfield has written that’s set in space (this is the 3rd in the Apollo Murder series). While classified as thrillers, they are of the same vein of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan series.
Pam
Oh, I didn’t realize this was a series! I want to read Hadfield’s memoir, An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth, but I might consider his fiction too. I can handle Clancy-style thrillers.
I loved Chris Hadfield’s memoir! I bet this book is great!
Final Orbit is the 3rd book in the Apollo Murders series. I’ve enjoyed the first two, and can’t wait to read this one.
Pam
I didn’t realize Michael J. Fox had a new memoir coming out. I’ll have to check it out.
Omg… Did I or did I just add six of these titles to my TBR wishlist? 🫣 All of these sounds incredible and I can’t believe they weren’t already on my radar! I hope you enjoy all of these if you check them out.
Sorry, not sorry! LOL!
Pam
now i want to read all of them – they all sound like i will love them.. my ttt is here – https://www.ladyinreadwrites.com/11-fairy-themed-books-and-activity-pairings-plus-more-magic/
These look good. I especially like the look of The Bodyguard Affair.
Have a great week!
Great list Pam. There are several on here that I will be adding to my TBR shelf. I love finding Canadian authors to read, and although a couple of these are already on my radar, several are not. Thanks.
Thank you so much for sharing these books from Canada with all of us!
Sounds like a lot of interesting reads! I hope you enjoy them all.
Some great looking books! I hope you enjoy them.
