My Opinions

Honestly, my 18-year-old daughter asked me to review this cookbook. Why? Because her friends, who are also 18, are fans of the show. Who am I to deny my daughter?

I have read a lot of cookbooks in my life, and this one impressed me. Why? Because they understand the desires of the people who will be using this cookbook. It has a hardcover yet is spiral-bound, which keeps it flat while using it. Something else that they did with this book that impressed me is make the pages wipeable. I wish more cookbooks had wipeable pages! This allows users to clean up any spills or messes. But it also lets you use a dry-erase marker to cross off ingredients as you use them.

While this is a Christmas cookbook, readers need to remember that Bluey’s Christmas is in summer, not winter, as she lives in Australia. That means several of these recipes feature fresh produce, including Veranda Santa Hats (strawberries), Watermelon Trees, Summer Smoothies, and Bingo’s “Botato” Salad (potato salad). There was also a recipe I needed to look up, as I’m unfamiliar with pikelets. What are pikelets? Essentially, mini pancakes.

The ingredients are all easy to find in the store, and several may already be in your pantry. Who doesn’t love that?

The instructions for the recipes are written in an easy-to-understand and explain manner. Making this a great way for kids and parents to spend time together in the kitchen. Actually, in the list of things needed for the recipes is a grown-up helper.

While there are only a few recipes in Bluey and Bingo’s Christmas Cookbook, it would be a great addition to any young cook’s cookbook collection. Or even better, stashed at a family member’s house as a surprise when the young ones get bored during a visit.
