Happy Tuesday y’all! This week’s topic from Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl for the Top Ten Tuesday is a Halloween freebie. I decided to list 12 Books With Black Covers. Why did I pick black covers? Well, black is one of the more prominent colors associated with Halloween, with the other being orange. I did a collection of orange covers for last year’s TTT Halloween Freebie, so it made sense to do black this year.
These books will be a mix of ones I have read and ones on my TBR. You will find a mix of new releases and older releases. I worked to keep one book per author. If it’s part of a series, I made sure it was the first book in the series. Looking for more information about the books listed below? The titles will take you to Goodreads.
Now, let’s look at my list of 12 books with black covers!
Books I’ve Read
- Scarborough by Catherine Hernandez
- Jonny Appleseed by Joshua Whitehead
- Five Little Indians by Michelle Good
- The Coincidence of Coconut Cake by Amy E. Reichert
- The Last Seance: Tales of the Supernatural by Agatha Christie
- The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen
Books on my TBR
- Rebel Rose by Emma Theriault
- The Keeper of Night by Kylie Lee Baker
- The Spirits Up by Todd Babiak
- Fairest of All by Serena Valentino
- Horseman: A Tale of Sleepy Hollow by Christina Henry
- Coronation Year by Jennifer Robson
That is my list of 12 books with black covers. What books have you seen with black covers that I should read? Have you read any of these gorgeous books? Will you be adding any of these to your TBR?

Love to see the Canada Reads books! Great list. I really want to read The Horseman!
Great choice of topic—I almost went for the same one and diverted at the last minute 😂 I’m sad I forgot about Keeper of Night for my list today cos it was plenty spooky but not overly so that even I could manage to get through it! Great list!
I was going to go a different route at first, but I didn’t like that topic as much.
What a fun post!

Black covers are perfect for this time of the year. That Christie one- spooky
It definitely grabs the eye, especially this time of year!
Love the covers for Agatha Christie, The Spirits Up, Fariest of All, and Horseman.
A few with black covers I have read I would recommend:
All The Pretty Things by Emily Arsenault
The Guest List by Lucy Foley
Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin
Circe by Madeline Miller
Any of the three of the Caraval series by Stephanie Garber
The Chemist by Stephenie Meyer
Thank you for the suggestions! I’ll have to look into those.
Great list – black covers are so atmospheric and always make me think of the colder months. And Five Little Indians was an incredible read.
Great idea for your list this week! The Coincidence of Coconut Cake really caught my eye, and I’ve been meaning pick up The Last Seance for a while.
Wonderful topic this week, Pam. But, now I want a piece of coconut cake!
LOL! You’re welcome! One of these days I need to test the recipe for the cake that is in the book.
Nice tweak to this week’s topic! Have a great week!
Horseman is on my TBR, too. I hope you like it.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thanks for stopping by earlier.
Johnny Appleseed was one of my top favorite books of last year!!
Great topic Pam!! I love your choices! Enjoy the rest of your week!🤗📚💜
Black covers are definitely associated with horror, mystery, thriller, etc. but it’s also interesting how a black cover can make even a historical non-fiction book really pop. Great list!
Happy TTT!

What a great list. I want to read several of these. I’m not always a fan of black covers, but a few of these really caught my eye.
Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog today.
Great list Pam! Black is a very versatile color and can easily suit a large number of genres. Perhaps not rom-coms, if I have to think quickly.
I hope you are having a good week so far!
Elza Reads
The Sleepy Hollow cover is really nice. I am also intrigued by Five Little Indians.
Ten Little Indians was one of my top reads of last year. It covers a topic that isn’t easy for a lot of people, but it is so worth the read.
Love these covers!
A great list. I’ve read Fairest of All. It was an interesting take.
Have a great week!
What a great idea for the freebie, I absolutely love it. Maybe I’ll copy it next year. LOL
Thanks for visiting my TTT this week this week is a Top Thirteen of songs that can be played at Halloween.
Ooh…so many great covers! I love your theme. My two favorite are The Coincidence of Coconut Cake and The Last Seance. And thanks for commenting on my blog earlier. 😀
Black covers always pop.
The Fairest of Them All has such a great cover.
I’m surprised we don’t see a lot of black covers. They can be so stunning!
These are great covers! Christie’s The Last Seance also seems to be Halloween-themed, so that’s a good fit multiple ways!
Happy TTT on a Wednesday! My post: https://bookwyrmknits.com/2022/10/25/top-ten-tuesday-cozy-mysteries/
These are such great picks. I love black covers. They’re always so striking!
“The Girl Who Chased the Moon” is a VERY interesting title. Don’t think I’ve ever heard of that one though so maybe I need to look into that one. 🙂 Thanks so much for visiting my website this week. Appreciate this.
Ooh I love the idea behind this post! It’s so interesting to see different black book covers. Thinking about it I don’t actually have that many black book covers! Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier.

Black is a very popular color on my bookshelf. I think the majority of my books are black or blue.
Love this take on the prompt. I haven’t read any!
This is a great post! Black is the perfect color for this month’s vibes too. 🙂
I love the cover for The Spirits Up!
This is a great choice for a Halloween freebie! 🙂
