Happy New Year y’all! We made it through 2022 relatively unscathed, which is a good thing. However, December did decide to throw some stressful twists in at the end to keep us all on our toes. How was your 2022? Today, I am sharing my 2022 year-end reading wrap-up and some 2023 goals. Some of these stats are from my record-keeping, and others are from Goodreads.

Goals for 2023

Simple Goals

I will aim for 52 books, which is one book a week, though I’m sure I will read more than that.

I also want to read my shelves a bit more, as I have accrued quite a few books last few years.

  • Non-fiction books: 6
  • Agatha Christie novels: 17
  • Fiction: 87

I know those numbers may not seem very high, but when I used to only have 5-10 books on my shelf at any moment, that is quite a bit for me.

Challenges

One challenge I’m doing this year is Buzzwordathon from Kayla at Books and Lala. Kayla has given a word or theme for each month. The goal is to read books with these in the title. Many of these words have become popular in recent years in book titles.

Another challenge I’m doing is a 5-4-3-2-1 challenge. I can’t remember where exactly I found this, but I know it was one I came across through Top Ten Tuesdays. The challenge is one that the reader generates and then completes. For me, the challenge looks like this:

  • 5-Action/Spy books: Think like James Bond and Jack Ryan.
  • 4-Graphic Novels: Self-explanatory, I have one from Christmas, so I only need three more
  • 3-Manga: Again, self-explanatory, I have one from Christmas, and there are plenty in my house for me to choose from
  • 2-Science Fiction: I’m not a huge fan of sci-fi books, but I am willing to try the genre. Do you have any suggestions for a beginner?
  • 1-Classic: Another self-explanatory one

I was surprised by how things went for me in 2022. A few times, reading just wasn’t something I wanted to do. But it did help me get through a challenging place as well. And because of that, I will be eternally grateful for books. How did your 2022 year-end reading wrap-up look? What are some of your reading goals for 2023?

  1. Great wrap up! It looks like you had a pretty awesome year of reading 🙂 One book a week sounds like a great goal and those challenges also look like fun! There were also moments for me when I didn’t really feel like reading this year but those moments didn’t last long. I hope you have an amazing 2023!
