It’s Thursday again! Do you know what that means? That’s right, another book tag. This week’s book tag is The Netflix Book Tag. I found it over at This Splendid Shambles and decided to try it. Summer heat is here, and binging is in order, whether it be Netflix or reading binging. Am I right?
The questions for The Netflix Book Tag are based on the various categories you will see on Netflix as you scroll through, looking for something to watch. You can then use those categories to list books.
Recently Watched: The last book you finished reading
The book I most recently finished reading is The Murder at the Vicarage by Agatha Christie. It is the first book to feature Miss Marple.
Top Picks: A book/books that have been recommended to you based on a book you have previously read
I’m not one to search for book recommendations; well, not in the past few years. But after a glance at my Goodreads recommendations, I have a couple of books I may pick up.
Based on my read shelf, Goodreads recommends You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson and The Bookish Life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman.
Based on my current shelf, Goodreads recommends When We Were Brave by Suzanne Kelman and The Library of Legends by Janie Chang.
Recently Added: The last book you bought
This question reminds me that I must do a July book haul. I got a few books last month. The previous three books I got and have listed in my Goodreads were When the Men Were Gone by Marjorie Herrera Lewis, The All You Can Dream Buffet by Barbara O’Neal, and Forever and a Day by Anthony Horowitz.
Popular on Netflix: Books that everyone knows about. (2 you’ve read and two you have not read or have no interest in reading)
I went to the List of Best Books of 2021 on Goodreads for this one. The list is a bit biased, as it’s based on user votes. But I didn’t want to use a huge list. Anyway, two books on the list I have read are The Final Revival of Opal & Nev by Dawnie Walton and Yellow Wife by Sadeqa Johnson. I have no interest in reading two books on the list: Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir and A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Mass. Neither book is in the genre I read, and thus, I have no desire to read these two popular books.
Comedies: A funny book
The Vinyl Cafe series by Stuart McLean is just the warmest, coziest book I have read. Yes, they are funny, but that’s because the stories are so relatable. Each book contains a collection of short stories about Dave and Morley and their two kids, Sam and Stephanie.
Dramas: A character who is a drama queen/king
Can you get any more drama queen than Scarlett O’Hara? She is a spoiled Southern “princess” who wants everything, especially the man she can’t have. It takes her almost 900 pages (and three marriages) to realize the truth; by then, it’s too late.
Animated: A book with cartoons on the cover
Yikes! This one might be a bit harder for me to do. Avoiding the kids’ books I’ve read on my Goodreads list was more complicated than I thought. But I managed to find a book with a cartoon vibe on the cover. It’s a whole series of books that have a cartoon vibe. The Melanie Travis Series by Laurien Berenson is a cozy mystery series that features the dog show world. The covers feature various dogs, primarily poodles, in cartoon-like situations.
Watch it again: A book/book series that you want to re-read
Um, I don’t re-read books. Okay, very rarely do I re-read books. If I had to pick one that I would re-read, I’d go with the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. I would re-read all the books, including The Heroes of Olympus series and The Trials of Apollo.
Documentaries: A non-fiction book you’d recommend to everyone
This one is easy! The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America’s Shining Women by Kate Moore. Just a word of caution: have a box of tissues nearby. You’ll need them!
Action and Adventure: An action-packed book
It’s been a while since I’ve read an action-type story. Don’t get me wrong, the books I read do have action. But when I think of action-adventure in movies and TV shows, I picture something like Indiana Jones or James Bond. So, I had to dig a bit for a book I wanted to list here. But I did find one, and it’s Threat Vector by Mark Greaney. The book is part of the Jack Ryan universe that Tom Clancy created. This one stars his son, Jack Ryan, Jr, trying to save the world and himself.
New Releases: A book that just came out or will be coming out soon that you can’t wait to read
Doh! Uncle Rick has a new book coming out in October that I must read. Daughter of the Deep by Rick Riordan is due October 5, 2021, and I can’t wait! I added it to my TBR in February when it was announced. It’s a funny story about that; I tried adding to my TBR before Goodreads even had listed it up; I’m excited about it!
Another book related to Rick Riordan that I’m excited about coming out soon is The Cursed Carnival and Other Calamities: New Stories About Mythic Heroes. This book is a collection of stories from many of the authors Rick Riordan works with through his Rick Riordan presents label through Disney Hyperion. It is due on September 28, 2021.
