I was looking for Book Tag ideas and stumbled across this one at Nily, and she found it over at The Wordy Habitat. It seemed like a great way to introduce myself, and my reading habits, to all of you.
So, let’s get started!
READING HABITS BOOK TAG
BOOKMARKS OR A RANDOM PIECE OF PAPER
Generally, I use a bookmark, BUT I have been known to use a random piece of paper. That piece of paper is usually a receipt whether it be from the store where I purchased the book or the library receipt so I know when to return my book.
STOP READING RANDOMLY OR STOP AFTER A CHAPTER/CERTAIN AMOUNT OF PAGES
Honestly, it depends what is happening around me. Are the kids (or hubby) trying to talk to me even though I have a book in my face? Is it getting to be time make dinner, or even go to bed? Am I falling asleep while reading? For the first scenario, I stop where I am (as much as I hate it!!). For the second one, I try to get to a stopping spot that makes sense (page breaks, end of the chapter). Same for the third scenario. I don’t usually worry about how many pages I’m reading, unless I have a deadline set in which to read the book. I’m currently reading a book that is over 900 pages long, and I am trying to finish it before February. Why? So, I can start the month off with a fresh book of course.
CERTAIN PLACE AT HOME FOR READING?
I don’t really have a specific place to read. I’ll sit at the dining table, on the couch, even in the bay window to read. A lot of that depends on what I’m reading. The current book I’m reading is kind of heavy (I mean it is over 900 pages after all), and it gets hard holding it, so I’m sitting at the table more to read it than anywhere else.
EAT OR DRINK WHILE READING?
Yup! I generally have a cup of tea nearby (iced and hot). But I will read while eating breakfast, lunch, or a snack. I try not to eat something too messy though if I am reading at the same time.
MUSIC OR TV WHILE READING?
Music! I can read in silence, but I have always been the type of person who needs music in the background. And I don’t mean just music for ambiance, I mean the radio more often than not. I struggle to read when the tv is on, which is funny because when I was in high school I was the kid who did all of their homework in front of the tv.
ONE BOOK AT A TIME OR SEVERAL?
It depends on the book, but normally just one at a time. I am worried I will get them mixed up if I read 2 at a time. If one book is non-fiction and has nothing to do with the fiction book I’m reading, then that is different. I refused to read Radium Girls at work because I knew I was going to have some ugly crying moments, and I was right. But I did read a different book at work.
READING AT HOME OR EVERYWHERE?
I normally read at home, but I will read almost anywhere. At work on break, on vacation. Never while traveling, because 99% of the time I’m the one driving, so I can’t read. But we have taken audiobooks with us on the road.
READING OUT LOUD OR SILENTLY?
I’m not sure I understand this question. I tend to read silently to myself. BUT if I come to a passage I just don’t understand, or can’t believe just happened, I will reread it out loud. It just helps make it easier to understand that way.
DO YOU EVER READ AHEAD OR SKIP PAGES?
Very rarely to I skip pages or read ahead. I will check to see how long the book is, and sometimes get caught up reading what is on the last page. Sometimes that makes me want to read the book, and others it just solidifies my reason for quitting the book.
BREAKING THE SPINE OR KEEPING IT LIKE NEW?
Break the spine? You mean like making that cracking sound? Never on purpose, especially as most of the books I read are soft covers/paperbacks. Breaking the spine causes pages to fall out then. But keeping it like new? How? If you are reading a book, there should be some wear and tear on the spine.
DO YOU WRITE IN YOUR BOOKS?
I have never understood the need to write in books. Yes, I did it when I was in college, because it was the easiest place to jot notes about what I was reading. But I have NEVER written in a book elsewise.
Now you know my reading habits. What are yours?
