January 2026 Goodreads TBR Shelf Clean-Up

Howdy, y’all! It’s time for my January 2026 Goodreads TBR Shelf Clean-Up. I wonder if this will help me reduce the number of books on my TBR. Who am I kidding? I’m a reader; of course, I’ll always add books. In November 2025, I had 618 books. Today, I have 601. The number went down somewhat because of a quick shelf reorganization I did at the beginning of the month. Will my January 2026 Goodreads TBR shelf clean-up help bring that number down more?

Lifeboat 12 by Susan Hood

My Thoughts

I first learned about this book through Top Ten Tuesday and picked up a copy for my oldest daughter. She enjoyed reading it, so I added it to my TBR. It still sounds like an interesting read.

My Thoughts

I believe this was another book that I found through Top Ten Tuesday. The book’s setting is why I added it to my TBR. Why? Because it’s the first in a series called Forever Adirondacks. What’s so special about that? That mountain range is in Northern New York state, and about 30 minutes from where I was born. It’s also a part of New York that doesn’t get the same love.

Lucy Checks In by Dee Ernst

My Thoughts

I was super excited when this book was released. Now, four years later, I’m still curious, but am I excited to read it?

Kill the Farm Boy by Delilah S. Dawson and Kevin Hearne

Then there’s a bard without a song in her heart but with a very adorable and fuzzy tail, an assassin who fears not the night but is terrified of chickens, and a mighty fighter more frightened of her sword than of her chain-mail bikini. This journey will lead to sinister umlauts, a trash-talking goat, the Dread Necromancer Steve, and a strange and wondrous journey to the most peculiar “happily ever after” that ever once-upon-a-timed.

My Thoughts

There is something about this book that sounds deliciously chaotic. Especially when it’s compared to The Princess Bride. Oh, and I have a copy sitting on my bookshelf.

Meet Me in Mumbai by Sabina Khan

Seventeen-year-old Mira Fuller-Jensen was adopted by her moms at birth. All she knows about her biological mother is that she was a high-school student from India who returned to India after giving birth. Although Mira loves her moms, she’s always felt out of place in her mostly white community.

So when Mira finds an old box with letters addressed to her from her birth mother, she sees a way to finally capture that feeling of belonging. Her mother writes that if Mira can forgive her for having to give her up, she should find a way to travel to India for her eighteenth birthday and meet her. Mira knows she’ll always regret it if she doesn’t go. But is she actually ready for what she will learn?

My Thoughts

I want to read more diversely, and this sounds like it fits that bill.

That is my January 2026 Goodreads TBR Shelf Clean-Up. It appears to have affected my shelf a little, as I’m keeping four of the books. LOL!

This was fun. I may do it now and then to help keep my shelf realistic. In the past, I had added books without giving them much thought. Will I stop doing that? Of course not! What kind of animal do you think I am?
