Happy Thursday, y’all! My friend Laurie from Laurie Is Reading created this tag in 2023. It’s a quick look at who I am and how being a book blogger has changed my habits. I started blogging in 2021 to stay active and not feel down about everything happening in the world. So, who would I be if I wasn’t a book blogger?

If I wan't a book blogger tag: How has blogging changed me?

Rules:

  1. Link back to the creator (Laurie @ Laurie Is Reading).

If I Wasn’t a Book Blogger, I…

…Would read less.

I think this is true. In the years before I started blogging, I would read 24-30 books a year. Since I started blogging, I’ve read around 100 books a year. If things were different, I would still be around the 30-book mark.

…Would be less critical towards the books I read.

Maybe. I’ve always tried to write reviews on Goodreads, some of which have been quite critical while others have not. Even now, when I write book reviews for my blog, I can either be critical or not. I think it depends on my overall feelings about a book.

…Would miss out on many books I happen to enjoy.

Maybe? I would have eventually found the books I’ve enjoyed over the past few years. I’m sure a few would have passed me by because they are in a niche I didn’t even know existed. At the same time, have I missed out on other books I may have enjoyed because of being a blogger?

…Would never have written reviews on other platforms.

That’s not true! I’ve been on Goodreads since 2008 and have written reviews there since the beginning. Being a book blogger has just given me another place to express my opinions about books I’ve read and enjoyed.

…Would never have improved my writing.

I have to say that blogging has improved my writing. I need only look at some of my early posts to see the growth.

…Would have had so much more time on my hands.

This is so true! Between reading books and writing blog posts, I could have finished all the building kits I have received over the years. And probably the few craft kits I’ve picked up. Oh, and even completed a personal challenge of doing a Julie & Julia thing, where I try every recipe in a cookbook. Hey, that’s an excellent idea for a blog post series. *pats myself on the head* Yay me!!

…Would never have been blogging at all.

I’m not sure this is true. I toyed with the idea off and on for several years. Some of my ideas include baking (though I don’t create recipes), being an expat, music, and board games.

This is what my life might look like if I wasn’t a book blogger. No one knows what life has in store for them. Many things are different now than they were four years ago. What would your life be like if you weren’t a book blogger? Or how do you think your life would change if you were a book blogger?
