Happy May, y’all! We are suddenly in the fifth month of 2025. At the same time, it feels like 2025 has lasted 3 or 4 years. Ugh! So much has happened in the world. Here’s hoping that May is a bit calmer. But let’s get to the reason we’re all here: my April 2025 wrap-up and a glimpse at my May plans.

The Pumpkin Spice Cafe by Laurie Gilmore

Review: An okay cozy romance with a sudden spice 3/4 of the way in.

Another month with a completed TBR, I feel like I should celebrate. I also managed to knock off a couple of books from my Spring TBR, which you can find here. Unfortunately, one of them was a DNF.

My favorite read in April? I read three that I rated 4.5 stars, so it varies from day to day. What three books did I rate so highly? One Death at a Time, Is She Really Going Out with Him? , and A Fashionably French Murder. Two of them are mysteries, and the other is a contemporary that’s often sold as a romance. You can’t go wrong with any of them.

I did have a couple of DNFs in April. I’m not sure if it was the book or me. Remarkably Bright Creatures didn’t work for me. I did give it a solid try and made it to about 66%. If there were more about Marcellus, I think I would have finished. The other DNF is Forever and a Day. I made it to page 68, but I just struggled to care about the story, which is strange, because I love James Bond. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve gotten older, and I’m over the misogyny, or I’ve stopped fantasizing about being part of the spy world.

May TBR

I have a few ARCs to read this month, so my TBR is pretty short! I hope to read some of the books I own this month to help reduce the books on my physical TBR.

April Blog Wrap-Up & May Plans

In April, I wrote and published 15 posts. I stumbled a bit with my goals and planning for posts. There were weekly reviews, and the same with Top Ten Tuesday posts. I also published a goal check-in, a tag, and a cookbook review. I also wrote a post about a solo trip to a baseball game I took. Of the 15 posts I published, my take on overhyped books was the most popular post. The overall most popular post for April was my list of book titles starting with the letter A from September 2022.

Personal Stuff

Well, my April was a bit up and down. I didn’t get to the book fair I wanted to go to early in the month, because I had a cold that was kicking my butt. My body decided a four-hour nap was way more important. Who am I to argue with my body? The weather never really cooperated to rehab the broken dresser. I also never made it to a fitness class. But I did make it to book club.

The biggest thing I did was go on a solo trip to a baseball game. For some, this wouldn’t be a big deal, but for me, it’s a huge deal. I hate being in large crowds, and I came so close to talking myself out of the trip multiple times. My husband encouraged me to do it, and I’m glad I followed through. In the end, I wrote a blog post about it, which you can find here. Yes, it drained my social battery, but it’s something I’d be willing to do again in the future.

What does May have for me? That’s a great question, as there’s Mother’s Day, my oldest daughter’s birthday, our wedding anniversary, and a holiday weekend. The best part? Those four days are all within the same week. What can I say, we like to live dangerously. LOL!

That’s my April in a nutshell. How was your April? What was your favorite read? What are your plans for May?

  1. Y’all are going to have one jam-packed FESTIVE week of celebrating! 😀 haha … But truly: I hope it’s a wonderful time of happiness and fun 🙂

I was also caught somewhat off-guard by the late spice arrival in Pumpkin Spice Cafe. Like, I’d heard people talk about “it’s spicy!” but as I’m reading I was wondering if it was “this is spicy for some but not for me, depending on what else you read?” And then presto. It got steamy. So I guess now I know the formula as I work my way through the rest of the series? lol
