Happy book tag Thursday! This week I decided to celebrate my love for the Percy Jackson fandom. Okay, it’s not just the Percy Jackson fandom; maybe it would be better to say the Heroes of Olympus fandom? I mean, once it’s all said and done, it’s not just the demigods from Camp Half-Blood who save the world.
I found this tag over at The Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus Characters Book Tag – putrisukmai. I decided to use just books that I’ve read in 2021, except three (one I read a few years ago, the other two I hope to read this year).

Percy Jackson–the best/favorite book read this year
I would have to go with We Are Not Free by Traci Chee for this one. This book is fantastic! The author used family stories to share many Japanese incarceration camps’ experiences from World War II.
Annabeth Chase–a book where you’re in awe of the author’s genius
How about a book that surprised me? Hench by Natalie Zina Walschots was a book I went into blindly, but it was a book that really grabbed me. I seriously hope Walschots writes a sequel and maybe even gets an adaptation deal.
Grover Underwood–a book you love that’s underhyped
Serena Singh Flips the Script by Sonya Lalli is an excellent book. While it was released in February 2021, it only has 817 ratings and an average of 3.79 on Goodreads. Come on, really? I would have thought it would have more ratings by now!
Luke Castellan–a book that you thought you’d hate but didn’t
I’m not sure how to answer this one. I don’t tend to read books that I think I won’t like. Sorry, I won’t say hate because I don’t like that work.
Chiron–a book that will always feel like home
I could say just about any Agatha Christie book that I have read this year, especially as I don’t typically reread books. But if I stick with books that I have read this year, I’ll go with The Mystery of the Blue Train featuring Hercule Poirot.
Tyson–a book with a sibling relationship you adore
I just finished reading When You Get the Chance by Tom Ryan and Robin Stevenson. Penny and Mark’s relationship is great. At the age of 10, Paige doesn’t care what other people think and doesn’t understand why people don’t just say what’s on their minds. At 17, Mark is just along for the ride, and he knows that no matter what happens, Paige has his back.
Thalia Grace–a book where time froze when you read it
Class Mom by Laurie Gelman was so funny and relatable, that I just blew through the book.
Nico di Angelo–a well-loved book you love too
My rating and the average rating on Goodreads is almost identical for One to Watch by Kate Stayman-London. I found it a fun read, and I loved the fact that the main female character was plus-sized.
Calypso–a book you’d be marooned on an island with
Definitely Legendborn by Tracy Deonn! I honestly think I could read it again and again.
Rachel Elizabeth Dare–a book you predict you’ll give 5 stars
The Guncle by Steven Rowley is one that I think I’ll give 5 stars. I’ve heard some good things about it.
Jason Grace–an upcoming book you’d get hit by a brick to read now
Did you know that Rick Riordan has a new book coming in October? I think I added it to my TBR as soon as I learned about Daughter of the Deep. If I could get an ARC, I would be so happy! Could someone hook me up?
Piper McLean–a book you loved that someone convinced you to read
I can’t think of any book that someone has convinced me to read. Goodreads recommendations have been hit or miss for me in the past, so I don’t even use that anymore. And no one else in my immediate circle reads. If anything, they turn to me for suggestions.
Leo Valdez–the funniest book you’ve read
The funniest book I’ve read this year has got to be The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson. Even better, I think Leo Valdez would love to meet Allan Karlsson, as they both like to make things go boom!
Hazel Levesque–a book you read a long time ago that you still love
May I present Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None. I have read this book a couple of times. And no, I did not realize I was rereading a book because the title was different on each copy. What can I say? Christie is such a masterful writer that I can reread her stuff without realizing it.
Frank Zhang–a book you were afraid to reach the end of
This is so easy! I tried to stall reading The Tower of Nero by Rick Riordan. Why did I try to stall reading it? Because it was the last book in the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles. After 14 books, I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to Camp Half-Blood. But in the end, I did read it and felt pretty sad afterwards.
Reyna Ramirez-Arellano–a book everyone hates but you love
I rated Two Trees Make a Forrest by Jessica J. Lee a 4 out of 5. The average rating on Goodreads is only 3.45. I understand it’s a non-fiction book, so that could be the reason for the lower rating. I found it an interesting combination of various non-fiction styles-travel, memoir, history, and nature.
Octavian–a book you would punch without hesitation
I’m not sure why I’m so upset with Gone With the Wind, but I could picture myself punching the book. Maybe not, because I could hurt myself. Have you seen the book? It’s bloody huge!
Percabeth–a book with the best romance
This may seem strange, but I will go with The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper by Phaedra Patrick. Arthur Pepper misses his wife, Miriam. On the first anniversary of her death, he finds a charm bracelet she owned that he knew nothing about. He was so distraught that he seeks answers for each charm on the bracelet. In the end, he realizes that she was happy in their marriage and that she loved him. It was a sweet read and a wonderful example of love and loss.
