Happy Tuesday, y’all! This week, Jana from That Artsy Reader Girl is asking us to share the books on our holiday wishlists. Honestly, as a reader, I rarely ask for books as gifts. The wishlist I shared with my family includes a few manga, but those are the ones I’m missing in a series. So instead, I’m going to twist this a bit and share some 2026 releases to get excited about!

2026 Releases to Get Excited About

I know we’ll be sharing our most anticipated releases for the first half of 2026 in a few weeks. But I can guarantee these books will not be on that post. I save those posts to highlight Canadian books. And oh boy, are there a lot I’m looking forward to reading and sharing! But along the way, I’ve found some other books I’m excited to read. All titles will lead to Goodreads.

Now, what are some 2026 releases to get excited about?

Beth is Dead by Katie Bernet

  • Genre: Young Adult Mystery, Retelling
  • Release Date: January 6, 2026

When Beth March is found dead in the woods on New Year’s Day, her sisters vow to uncover her murderer.

Suspects abound. There’s the neighbor who has feelings for not one but two of the girls. Meg’s manipulative best friend. Amy’s flirtatious mentor. And Beth’s lionhearted first love. But it doesn’t take the surviving sisters much digging to uncover motives each one of the March girls had for doing the unthinkable.

Jo, an aspiring author with a huge following on social media, would do anything to hook readers. Would she kill her sister for the story? Amy dreams of studying art in Europe, but she’ll need money from her aunt—money that’s always been earmarked for Beth. And Meg wouldn’t dream of hurting her sister…but her boyfriend might have, and she’ll protect him at all costs.

Despite the growing suspicion within the family, it’s hard to know for sure if the crime was committed by someone close to home. After all, the March sisters were dragged into the spotlight months ago when their father published a controversial bestseller about his own daughters. Beth could have been killed by anyone.

Beth’s perspective, told in flashback, unfolds next to Meg, Jo, and Amy’s increasingly fraught investigation as the tragedy threatens to rip the Marches apart.

Some, like 15-year-old Stella Temple, are brought in at their family’s request. For Stella, even the Colony’s hardships seem like a respite from her nightmarish home life.

Superintendent Dorothy Baker, convinced that she’s transforming degenerate souls into upstanding members of society, oversees the women’s medical treatment and “training” until they’re deemed ready for parole. Sooner or later, everyone at the Colony learns to abide by Mrs. Baker’s rule book or face the consequences—solitary confinement, grueling work assignments, and worse.

Freyja by Margrét Ann Thors

  • Genre: Mystery
  • Release Date: August 4, 2026

But when her ex-husband returns to Iceland and brings with him a new girlfriend, who seems to know more about Unnur than she’s letting on, Unnur may finally have to face what happened long ago on a black sand beach in the remote Dark Valley—and the possibility that she might be responsible for the disappearance of her otherworldly friend Freyja.

As a cold case investigation reopens and the intricate threads of past and present begin to tangle, Unnur must race to recover the broken memory of what happened all those years ago, or risk losing her daughter. Steeped in Icelandic folklore and myth, Freyja is at once a gripping story of a child’s disappearance, a testament to the power of a mother’s love, and an enthralling tale of redemption and forgiveness from a gifted new voice.

  1. Ooh, I just saw a different cover for Mad Mabel and it gave completely different vibes so I didn’t even think to check it out. This cover makes me want to see what it’s about 😂 I’ve also been seeing Keeper of Lost Children around quite a bit lately and my interest is finally piqued now that I’ve read the synopsis, lol. On the TBR it goes. I hope you enjoy all of these!

  2. These are all new to me, but I love the cover for The Night We Met! I also had no idea there was a new Matt Haig book coming out. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas!

  3. Ok, I’m not sure how I feel about the March women being a murder plot mystery… BUT I did read and find funny the Austen and zombie book, so maybe this one could be interesting, too! 😉 Thanks so much for visiting my list today.

  4. Some of these books sounds so wonderful. I am sure my daughter will be excited about Jimenez’s book. Everyone in this Bank is a Thief caught my eye. Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog, Pam. Happy holidays!

  5. Women of a Promiscuous Nature sounds terrifying! And yet….not at all unbelievable! I’ve read the 2 Aussie releases on your list (Mad Mabel & Everyone In This Bank Is A Thief) and really enjoyed them both!

    1. I loved Maame, and when I saw she had a new book coming, I added it to my TBR without reading the synopsis.

  6. I have the ARC copy of Women of a Promiscuous Nature by Donna Everhart in my ‘tbr’ pile. Making time to read it is the next step… Too many books, so little time!!

    P. S. My mom gifted me the Letters by Lamplight for Christmas and I’ve received the first two letters in the mail this month! Cool concept for a subscription that will last for a year. So far, I am enjoying this cozy mystery series by letter.

  7. I was declined for the Keeper of Lost Children, so will definitely be waiting until my library gets a copy. I am also waiting for the Abby Jimenez book. I hope you enjoy all of these Pam.
