Happy Tuesday, y’all! This week, Jana fromย That Artsy Reader Girlย has given us a freebie for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday. She suggested that we do a topic we want or do a throwback, and do a topic that was done previously. And what topic did I decide to do? I decided to continue a list from a few weeks ago and highlight authors from my country. You can find my original list here. This topic is easy for me, as I always strive to highlight Canadian authors! My only conundrum was narrowing the list down to ten authors. I love celebrating Canadian authors and sharing those who deserve love and recognition worldwide. This week, we are celebrating more Canadian authors. And Happy Canada Day!

I went through my Goodreads shelves; thankfully, I have one labeled ‘Canada,’ and my ‘Highly Anticipated Releases’ post to compile my list of authors. All together, I had over 20 I could share with you. I thought that would be a bit overwhelming, so I asked my husband and daughter how I should narrow the list down. They agreed that I should share a mix of authors from across Canada, some of whom you may have heard of, and others you may not have heard of.
All of the authors’ images are from their website, which is linked to their names. All book titles are linked to Goodreads.
Now let’s start celebrating more Canadian authors.
Eliza Reid-Ontario

Reid was born and raised in Ontario and is the former first lady of Iceland. Her first book, Secrets of the Sprakkar, is a nonfiction book that discusses Iceland’s history of strong women and how they are impacting the world. Her second book, Death on the Island, is a mystery set on a small island off the coast of Iceland.

Drew Hayden Taylor-Ontario

Taylor is a prolific storyteller. He is an award-winning playwright, journalist, scriptwriter, author, and producer. Throughout his career, he has included a connection to his Indigenous culture. While listed as a horror book, to me, Cold is a retelling of Indigenous folklore.

Heather Marshall-Ontario

Marshall’s books are historical fiction that tell stories of strong women.ย Her debut novel, Looking for Jane, was an instant bestseller. It tells the story of women who want to have a say about their bodies and reproductive rights.

Jackie Lau-Ontario

Lau typically sets her books in and around the Greater Toronto area. They are all romances, and contain characters are of Asian descent. I have read a couple of her full-length novels (Time Loops & Meet Cutes) and a collection of her novellas (A Match Made for Thanksgiving)

Bianca Marais-Ontario

Are you looking for a book with quirky characters and a sprinkling of fantasy? Then you should check out Bianca Marais. Her most recent release, A Most Puzzling Murder, features elements of escape room games and choose-your-own-adventure books. The Witches of Moonshyne Manorย is about a group of 80-something witches trying to save their home.

Jackie Khalilieh-Ontario

Khalilieh is the author of two young adult contemporaries with a side of romance. Her latest, You Started It, features fake dating but also features a main character with anxiety.

Jenny Holiday-Ontario

Holiday’s focus is romance. She has published books in various subgenres within romance: contemporary, historical, and Christmas. A couple of my favorites are Canadian Boyfriend and A Princess for Christmas

C.L. Polk-Alberta

Best known for fantasy novels with queer characters. I was introduced to The Midnight Bargain because it was nominated for Canada Reads 2021.

Conor Kerr-Alberta

An award-winning poet and author, Kerr focuses on our relationships with each other and nature. His book Prairie Edge has been nominated for several awards.

Michelle Good-British Columbia

Good focuses on telling Indigenous stories. Her debut fiction novel, Five Little Indians, won Canada Reads 2022. It tells a powerful story about residential school survivors. Truth Telling is a collection of essays about the Indigenous experience in Canada.

How is that for celebrating more Canadian authors? Are there any on the list that you’ve read before? Any that you’re interested in reading now? What are some authors from your area that you want to celebrate?

Thank you for introducing us to more Canadian authors.
Thanks for this list, Pam. I’ve read Jenny Holiday, Michelle Good and Jenny Holiday, but am always on the look out for Canadian authors. I have the C.L. Polk book on my TBR, but didn’t realize she was Canadian.
Happy Canada Day! I don’t think I’ve read any of these authors. ๐จ๐ฆ
Here’s mine for this week: https://portobellobookblog.com/2025/07/01/top-ten-tuesday-1st-july-2025-ten-audiobooks-i-recommend-toptentuesday-amreading-amlistening-audiobooks-bookrecommendations-tuesdaybookblog/
Happy Canada Day. Iโm surprised to find that I havenโt read any of these authors yet, but Iโll keep an eye out for them.
I like C.L. Polk and I need to catch up!
Michelle Good and Conor Kerr’s books look really good.
Ohh, I’ll have to check out Kerr.
I always love how you spotlight Canadian authors! I didn’t quite a few bigger name romance authors were Canadian! Jenny Holiday is an author I’d like to read at some point and hopefully, it’ll happen around the holidays this year. Great list ๐
Ha-ha. I didn’t realize you were hyphenating the province, I thought it was a hyphenated name until I realized the first five had Ontario as that second part of the hyphenated name. I’m going to chuckle about this one all day.
Happy Canada Day! My TTT
I haven’t read any of these, but often think Jenny’s and Jackie Lau’s books look cute! May be two authors I need to read more about and some I need to meet. ๐ Thanks for sharing and for visiting my list this week!
Oh I didn’t know these!
Thanks for sharing more Canadian authors, so fun! Have a great week!
I haven’t read any of these authors. Thank you for introducing them. Their books all look really good.
I LOVE hearing of new authors. I have both by Eliza Reid on my TBR. And, as an American, I’m sorry. We love your country.
Reid’s two books are different (one is a nonfiction, while the other is a mystery), but both were great fun! I didn’t realize until I was reading an article about her that her brother, Iain, is a famous author too.
Great looking books. I loved The Witches of Moonshyne Manor!
Have a great week!
Moonshyne Manor was such a fun read! A Most Puzzling Murder may leave your brain a bit tired, but in a good way.
It was! I would like more with those characters.
๐ I’m not sure if I am up for that. I barely remember my name these days ๐
What a great post!
Thanks for introducing us to new authors.

Featuring Canadian authors is a wonder post idea!
You always do such an amazing job promoting Canadian authors. I see a few here I’d definitely like to try.
Happy Canada Day. I am now intrigued by Looking for Jane as well as Michelle Good’s books.
Perfect day for this topic, and I learned about some new authors to add to my TBR! Happy Canada Day!
I have heard of Jackie Lau but haven’t read any of her books yet!
Her books are fun, but they can be a bit on the steamy side.
I haven’t heard of the majority of these authors. Thanks for spotlighting them!
Happy TTT!

Fun topic and great list! The ones here I’ve read are Jackie Lau and C. L Polk, and I really enjoyed their books!
Great idea, fab list!
I haven’t read any of these authors, but it’s always fun to see where authors are from ๐
Great list! I’ve enjoyed C.L. Polk’s work, but I haven’t read The Midnight Bargain yet. One of my personal favorite Canadian authors is Tanya Huff. I really enjoy her urban fantasy books.
I may have to look her up. Urban fantasy seems to be easier for me to get into than traditional fantasy.
Summon the Keeper is a light one focused on magic that I enjoyed a lot (it’s the start of a trilogy) but if you want a darker urban fantasy (which is more common) her Blood series and Smoke series feature vampires and other paranormal creatures.
But Summon the Keeper has a talking cat. Hard to argue with that.
I love C.L. Polk. I read Even Though I Knew the End early this year and it was my first five-star read of 2025.
Thanks for this list! I think Margaret Atwood is my favorite Canadian author, but that’s probably a cliche answer. ๐
