Happy Tuesday y’all! The summer is almost over in North America, and I’m not sure where it went. But I’m okay with that, as I’m not a huge fan of the summer heat. Anyhoo, back to the fact it’s Tuesday. That means it’s time for a Top Ten Tuesday post. Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl is the host, and this week’s topic is Fictional Crushes. I don’t have many fictional crushes, but I do have some that I would LOVE to have a drink with. So that is the twist I’m bringing to the topic. A list of characters I would love to have a drink with.

I will admit, it took a little bit of thinking to come up with 10. But I did it! I even managed to keep them all adults. Y’know, so we could have adult drinks. *wink* *wink* They are from a variety of genres, but all characters I would love to know more about.

Joanna Blalock–The Daughter of Sherlock Holmes Mystery Series by Leonard Goldberg

She’s the daughter of Sherlock Holmes and works with Dr. John Watson. I would love to have a drink with her to figure out how her (and her father’s) thinking process works.

Anna–Hench by Natalie Zina Walschots

She’s just an office worker who was screwed over by a superhero. Multiple times! She wants to make the superhero pay, even if she worked for a villain when she was first injured. I would want to have a drink with her to see how her mind works. But also to ensure I’m not on her hit list. I’m not a superhero, but I’m also not a villain. Who wouldn’t want someone like her on speed dial?

Sunshine Vicram–Sunshine Vicram Series by Darynda Jones

This was tough; it was a tie between Sunshine and Charley Davidson (another great character by Darynda Jones). Sunshine is a sheriff and has a no-nonsense personality. She may be a coffee addict, which I’m not, but she could still be a lot of fun to hang out with. Have some great Mexican food, with a beer. Yes, please!

Jen Dixon–Class Mom Series by Laurie Gelman

One of the first things I noticed about Jen is her was her love of wine and coffee. No, I’m not too fond of wine either, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love hanging out with her and having a drink while torturing trick-or-treaters on Halloween or even gossiping about the other parents in the class.

Idgie Threadgoode–Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg

She’s just a badass who was ahead of her time. Seriously, at one point in the book, she’s gambling with the guys and drinking shots of either whiskey or moonshine.

Virgil–The Final Revival of Opal & Nev by Dawnie Walton

Virgil is the only side character I have on this list. I could always stand to have some fashion advice. And I am sure I can bribe him with some drinks.

Major Ernest Pettigrew–Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson

Major Pettigrew is a man who doesn’t take crap from people, other villagers, or even his own son. And that is always someone I want to know better.

Hercule Poirot–Hercule Poirot Series by Agatha Christie

First of all, his books aren’t really a series. But he has been part of a lot of books. Just like Joanna, I would love to know how his mind works. To try and understand how his gray matter puts together all of the little pieces from the murders he investigates.

Allan Karlsson–The Hundred-Year-Old Man Series by Jonas Jonasson

Allan lived a fascinating life, and I want to know more about his story. All I have to do is give him some vodka, and I know he would be willing to tell me more of his story.

James Bond–James Bond (Original Series) by Ian Fleming

Many people forget that James Bond was a book character before making it to the big screen. A vodka martini shaken, not stirred, would be a drink I would be willing to try. And who better to try it with than the man who drinks it all the time?

I’m sure there are others with who I would enjoy a drink, but these are the ones that came to mind first. What about you? What characters would you love to have a drink with?

  2. The only character I “know” is James Bond (and even that from the movie) but I reckon he’d be an interesting character to have a drink with! I like the twist you did this week 🙂

  4. I’m also not a fan of the summer heat, but I agree it went by so fast!

    Great twist on the theme (I’ll have to remember it for the future). I’m one of the people who forgot that James Bond was a book character! I’d dress all fancy and have a drink with him.

  13. I loved Idgie. For sure! And James Bond would be interesting too. Which Bond would be your preference (if you have one)? Haha that’s fun to think about too…

    1. Which Bond is the better Bond is such a hot button topic. Growing up I preferred Moore, but now I think I’m leaning towards Craig. What about you?

      1. I like Moore a lot- he had that wry humor!- but I also like certain of the Connery ones (early ones- Thunderball is a favorite) and I liked Brosnan as well!

  16. I wouldn’t mind meeting Hercule Poirot, I’m sure he’d be very interesting. James Bond, mmmh, he’s quite the misogynist but maybe if it was the Pierce Brosnan or Roger Moore version. LOL

  19. Idgie Threadgoode – I don’t quite remember the character from the book as much as the movie version but she is a great character and yes, a badass. I think I wouldn’t mind having her a friend.

    I only read one Hercule Poirot book so I can’t really say I like him but I like dectectives and he seems to have a great mind for solving murders. If I was ever accused of murder, I might call on him to help me.

  29. Except for James Bond by Ian Fleming and Hercule Poirot by Agatha Christie I am not familiar with all the other figures and authors you named in your post. But I am glad you did. It is always a fun adventure to get to know other authors and their work. Happy reading.

  30. I own the first Sherlock Holmes Daughter book, but haven’t read it just yet. However it does sound super interesting and perhaps will be a good autumn read given mysteries always seem to be a good autumn-esque read. 🙂 Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland on this week!

    I thin I’d be too intimidated by Poirot or Bond to have a drink, I’d rather watch them give a talk or something.
